Too often people search for dry skin relief in countless products. They buy all sorts of lotions and creams hoping to relieve that tight dry feeling. Well, the solution can be close at hand. That's right, a dry skin remedy can be as close as your kitchen shelf. You can make your own recipes for dry skin relief with the application of some foods commonly found in your kitchen.

There are two ways to get relief from dry skin from your kitchen shelf. You can eat the food or apply some of the foods directly on your skin.

Some of these foods which relieve your dry skin include honey, olive oil , yogurt and oatmeal.

Honey a natural dry skin remedy has bee used since ancient times. Cleopatra used honey together with milk combined in a bath to keep her skin young and fresh. Honey acts to both heal and moisturize the skin. With its antibacterial properties honey can heal the tiny breaks in the skin letting dry skin repair itself. Honey is a natural moisture holder or humectant.

Yogurt is another food which can be an ally of dry skin. Yogurt can be used as a skin cleanser leaving the skin soft and moisturized. Oatmeal can ease dry skin. You can mix oatmeal with a little bit of water to have a natural facial exfoliating mix. Or pour some oatmeal in your bath to reduce itchy dry skin.

Another great kitchen resource is olive oil. Cold pressed extra virgin olive oil can smooth and soften skin. Whether you include olive oil in your diet or apply it to your skin. Olive oil softens and soothes dry skin. Add almonds to your diet every day for healthy oils which help dry skin feel smooth and supple. Other sources of 'good' oils for you skin are fish such as salmon.

You can use an herb tea not only to drink but also to hydrate your skin. You can also use an herb tea as part of a steaming facial.The steam will open your pores allowing your moisturizing part of your facial to do its work. Some herbs to try include chamomile, peppermint and calendula.

Kitchen Based Dry Skin Recipes.

Honey Mask

Using a headband or barrettes pin hair back from face.

Wet a facecloth with very warm water.

Place on face for 3-5 minutes to open pores.

Take 2-3 tablespoon of honey and smear over face.

Sit back and relax for 15 minutes.

Remove honey with warm water rinse.

Follow with your favorite moisturizer or 1 teaspoon of olive oil

Egg White Mask

This is especially good for moisturizing in those cold winter months.

Pull hair back from face.

Take one egg white and gently 'paint' face avoiding eye area.

Sit back and close your eyes till the egg white dries.

Rinse with clear warm water.


Avocado Mask For Face And Hands

You'll need 2 gallon size zip lock bags.

Take one ripe avocado and mash into a thick paste.

Depending on the ripeness of the avocado you may want to add 1-3 teaspoons of olive oil. This will make the mask easier to spread.

Apply the mask to your face and hands. Make sure you massage the mixture into your cuticles.

Slide your hands inside the bag.

Lie back and relax.

Remove the ziplock bags and wash your hands with warm water.

Now rinse your face with clear warm water.

Follow up with a light moisturizing lotion on your face and hands.

Remember dry skin relief and dry skin remedies are as close as your kitchen shelf.
