Almost everyone gets a cold or the flu sometime or another. Instead of running to your doctor to be rescued, consider safer alternatives that can be employed right in the comfort of your own home - herbs.

Consider, for example, Garlic. Mixing it with fresh lemon juice and honey, and perhaps a little warm water, can work wonders for a person suffering from a cold. Many people are quite unaware of the medicinal value of garlic - they perhaps only see it as a bad-breath causing food item. But really, Garlic is highly valuable when it comes to it's ability to heal the human body.

Along with Garlic comes Onion, great for mild fevers. You can simply bake a large onion and mix the juice from the onion with a little honey and take throughout the day. The constituents in Onion serve beautiful purposes, and people of the ancient world employed it for a number of health purposes. It is not only great for colds and the flu, but also to prevent infection perhaps on an open wound.

Thyme is very effective especially if you are experiencing thick mucus with your cold. With small pink flowers, this aromatic shrub aids with infections, asthma, hay fever, worms, and even skin problems. A syrup made with Thyme is a great cough remedy.

Lemon is great if you drink the freshly squeezed juice perhaps with a little honey and water. The essential oil of lemon is also wonderful for canker sores that perhaps occur due to your cold. Lemon is high in Vitamin C, and is so valuable to human society that people have written books about it.

Yarrow, drank as a tea, is wonderful if you are experiencing a high fever. Also known as Milfoil, Yarrow is a creeping perennial that can be found in the wild throughout much of the world. It has not been researched very well, but one thing it is known to aid with is colds and flu.

Echinacea is great for those suffering from the flu and along with it perhaps aches and pains. Also known as Coneflower or Purple Coneflower, Echinacea is a perennial with daisylike flowers. You can purchase either caplets or even make a tea for your symptoms. Native Americans used the herb regularly for sore throats and other conditions.

Yes, there are natural remedies for colds and the flu. Next time you experience symptoms, consider employing some safe remedies - herbs!
