The first symptom of appendicitis is a sudden pain in the centre of the abdomen that gradually shifts to the lower right side. There may be a general feeling of discomfort in the abdomen, constipation, diarrhea or indigestion before the commencement of pain. The patient may also have a mild fever and nausea and may vomit once or twice. The muscles of the right side of the abdomen may become rigid and tense. Due to coughing and sneezing the pain gets worse.
The major cause of appendicitis is a toxic condition of the bowel. An excessive amount of waste material consisting of toxins and poisons is accumulated in the caecum. This results in the inflammation and irritation of the appendix. It is an attempt on the part of nature to burn up and localize the toxins. This condition is brought about by weakening of the system and wrong feeding habits.
One of the major factors contributing to the development of appendicitis is the inflammation of the bowel lining due to the habitual use of purgatives. Further infection and inflammation comes from certain germs present in the intestinal tract.
Nature Cure for Appendicitis: With the commencement of the first symptoms of severe pain, fever and vomiting the patient should be immediately put to complete bed rest. Rest is most important in the treatment of appendicitis.
Along with rest the patient should resort to fasting which is the only real cure for appendicitis. Nothing except plain water should be taken by the patient. A warm water enema should be administered for a period of three days for cleansing the bowels. During this period hot compresses may be placed over the abdominal area several times a day. After the third day when the acute symptoms subside the patient can begin taking fresh fruit juices.
The patient should thereafter switch to an all fruit diet for further four days. Three equal meals of fresh juicy fruits should be taken by the patient during this period. The patient may gradually embark to a well balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts and grains.
When the appendicitis is chronic in nature a short fast should be followed by a full milk diet for eighteen days. During this regimen a glass of milk should be taken every two hourly during the day. After the full milk diet, the patient may take a well balanced diet with more emphasis on green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits.
Certain juices of vegetables especially carrot juice in combination with the juices of cucumber and beets have been found useful in the treatment of appendicitis.
Regular intake of tea made from fenugreek seeds has also been found helpful in preventing the formation of excessive mucus and pus in the appendix.
Above all an appendicitis patient should take all the necessary steps to remove constipation if it is habitual. Application of abdominal packs and hot fomentations every morning and night over the abdominal area also offer great relief. Abdominal massage is also very beneficial.
The irritation and inflammation in the appendix will subside once the waste matter in the caecum has moved to the colon and eliminated and surgery for appendix will no longer become necessary. Surgical procedure is resorted to only when the appendix has become infected and filled with pus.
Thus we can say that natural treatments have been found to be very beneficial in the treatment and cure of diseases such as appendicitis.
