The first symptom of impetigo is the appearance of small fluid filled vesicle usually around the lips or nose. Due to the patient's irresistible urge to scratch, the infection can also spread to the face and other parts of the body because of the presence of large numbers of bacteria on their weeping surfaces. A yellow scab is formed when the vesicle rapidly crusts over which, when knocked off leaves a raw weeping surface.
The main cause of impetigo is germs which can spread rapidly between persons causing an outbreak of the disease. Impetigo may also occur as a secondary condition after eczema, scabies and head lice infection.
The real cause of this disease however is malnutrition brought about due to wrong eating habits and unhygienic conditions of living. It can easily spread from one person to another by personal contact having the same levels of toxicity and impaired vitality.
Nature Cure for Impetigo: In the initial stages of this disease the patient should be kept isolated to prevent the further spread of infection until the condition is cleared up. Items for the patient's personal use such as sponge and towel should be kept separately. The patient should also be prevented from scratching the scabs. The patient's used items should be washed only with hot water instead of strong detergents.
The treatment should first commence by putting the patient on an all fruit diet for about three days. During this regimen he should be given fresh juicy fruits such as apple, orange, pear, peach, papaya and pineapple. If the condition is serious it is rather advisable to commence the treatment by a short fast on orange juice and water for about two days. This may be followed by an all fruit diet for further two days. A warm water enema should be administered daily during the course of treatment for cleansing the bowels and if the constipation is habitual all the natural methods should be adopted for its eradication.
The patient may thereafter switch to a well balanced diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds and milk after the all fruit diet. More emphasis should be placed on whole meal bread, fresh fruits, fresh milk and raw salads.
Foods such as tea, coffee, sugar, white flour products, tinned or bottled foods, denatured cereals, highly flavored dishes, condiments and pickles should be avoided by the patient suffering from impetigo.
Certain home remedies have also been found effective for the treatment of impetigo. One such remedy is the use of Garlic as it helps in relieving constant itching caused by this disease. This vegetable should be smashed and spread over irritated areas. It is also beneficial to chew a clove of garlic for better results.
Use of Turnip has also been found helpful in the treatment of impetigo. After thorough cleansing of a few chopped pieces of turnip they should be immersed in cooked rice water for about five hours. They should than be taken orally by the patient.
Along with these remedies the patient should also resort to other useful measures such as daily dry friction, air and sun baths and breathing and other light exercises. Pranayamas such as anuloma-viloma and kapalbhati have also been found helpful in treating this condition.
Thus we can say that the application of various natural and home remedies has been found to be very effective in the treatment of impetigo and other skin related disorders.
