Itchy, dry scalp can be a pain, not just for the flakes that appear on your dark clothing, but the irritation from scratching can further damage your hair as well as be painful. According to WebMD, a dry scalp is caused by an imbalance of your skin's oil on the head and hair. Shampooing daily washes away the essential oils and can lead to dry scalp.

Products that claim to protect against dry scalp and dandruff can be expensive and at times do not live up to their claim and one ends up with dozen's of half used bottles in their cabinets. There has to be a simpler way as well as one that is not that expensive. There are a few ways that one can make a product that can help with dry scalp.

The people at Right Health (www.righthealth.com) offer this recipe from common household ingredients to help soothe dry scalp:

Ingredients: (1) ½ cup olive oil and (2) 10 plain aspirin.

To make the mixture, simply crush aspirin into a fine powder and mix with olive oil until you form a paste. To use, simply massage paste into hair and on scalp, let set for five minutes. Rinse with cool, clean water until all paste has been removed and wash hair regularly. Repeat this monthly.

There are also natural oils that can be found at a local health food market that can also help elevate dry scalp. Such oils include, jojoba, tea tree, basil, lavender, rosemary, lemon and peppermint. To use the oils, simply use a tablespoon or so and massage into the scalp. Let stand for ten minutes and rinse with warm water. Then shampoo with favorite shampoo and conditioner. Repeat weekly. A good website to explore is www.dryitchyscalpremedies.com for further suggestions as well as recipes to help sooth dry scalp while using common household ingredients.

Some of the more outlandish remedies that can be found include: (1) massage baby oil into hair, leave in overnight and wash hair following morning. Repeat as necessary; (2) Lemon Juice [they kind that can be found in bottles], massage into scalp, let rest for ten minutes and rinse. Repeat as needed as this is only a temporary fix; (3) 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon lime juice. Combine ingredients and leave in hair overnight. Then wash hair as normal in the morning.

These are but a few ways to help elevate dry scalp. May you find a formula that will help alleviate the itch.
