Natural Remedies for Hair Fall

Since times immemorial people have desired healthy hair and considered it an essential part of beauty. Right from the time of Augustus Caeser people have been trying various hair loss treatments to maintain their crowning glory.

A thick crown of hair definitely boosts our confidence and most people consider it important to create a good first impression. Onset of baldness causes most people to look prematurely old. Therefore, hair fall or alopecia as it is also called causes a lot of mental agony among people affected by it. Most of the hair loss treatments available to us either give little or no results and can also lead to side effects. In this article I am concentrating on the natural remedies for hair fall which are safe and easily available.

Causes of hair loss

· Heredity is one of the main causes of hair loss. Though we cannot prevent it we can definitely slow down thinning of hair by taking proper remedial action.

· Use of chemical cosmetics for hair care can trigger unnatural hair fall. Chemical dyes, shampoos, bleaches and treatments such as straightening and tinting which are used to enhance the look of the hair may sometimes weaken the hair follicles causing damage to them.

· Improper diet also plays an important role in premature hair loss. Hair is made up of proteins and amino acids and a diet deficient in them will prevent healthy growth of hair. Excessive intake of salt and sugar may also contribute to hair fall.

· With ever present project deadlines and work pressure it is inevitable that we become prone to stress. One of the earliest stress related disorders that can strike our body is excessive hair loss.

· Certain hairstyles where the hair is pulled back such as in tight ponytails and excessive combing can also lead to a receding hair line due to the constant pull of the hair towards the back side.

Symptoms of hair loss

It is natural to loose about 50-100 hairs per day. Loosing large clumps of hair especially after combing or shampooing our hair, abnormally large numbers of hair strands on our pillow or bed sheets and a receding hair line are all definite indications of hair loss.

Hair loss prevention tips

· Oil therapy is one of the best natural remedies for controlling hair loss. Gently massaging the scalp with fingertips encourages proper flow of blood to the hair follicles and also removes any dirt or dust particles which might block the hair pores.

· Avoid chemical shampoos and cosmetics to wash the hair. Herbal alternatives made with natural ingredients are just as good if not better for soft bouncy hair. We can make an excellent herbal shampoo by mixing alovera gel in a little amount of coconut milk. Soapnut is also widely used in India to wash hair and is considered a safe and healthy alternative to artificial shampoos.

· Eat healthy protein rich food. This is good not only for preventing hair loss but also essential for the proper functioning of the entire body. Include eggs, milk, lean meat and lots of green vegetables in your diet.

· In eastern medicine, constipation and improper bowel movement is considered an important reason for hair loss.

· Proper exercise is also beneficial for healthy hair since it stimulates blood flow and also helps in digestion of food.

Home remedies for hair fall

· Massaging the scalp thoroughly with coconut, almond or olive oil is considered to be very effective in preventing hair fall.

· You can use a hair pack made by finely grounding hibiscus leaves, flowers and a teaspoon of henna in water, this is then slowly massaged to different areas of the head. I have found this a very effective treatment for preventing hair loss.

· Curd, henna and egg mixed together into a fine paste and then applied slowly over the entire scalp is a very good remedy for dandruff and thinning hair.

· Also massaging onion juice over the scalp is also considered beneficial to reduce hair loss.
