Natural Remedies for Migraines/Headaches

April
I have been suffering from migraine headaches for about two years. I like to try everything natural first before resorting to having to take an over the counter pill. Over the counter pills have side effects if used often or long term. Sometimes these natural things work, but if I need to get through the day and I am very uncomfortable, then I will have to take a pill or two. That is my last choice though. Here are some natural things that I use for my headaches that help a lot of times.

Sometimes ice is good to put wherever the pain is. I have found that I have gotten relief by using ice.

A holistic pharmacist gave me a menthol stick to sniff and rub on my forehead and the back of my neck. At times I do get some good results from this. I have used this when I have had to sit for a long period of time. By sniffing it, it cleared my head somewhat and helped me to sit a little longer.

Once I rubbed olive oil on my head and a little while after the pain went away. Any kind of natural oil is good for inflammation.

I also bought an inflammation cream called traumeel. It is a homeopathic cream that is supposed to be good for joint, muscle pain and for when the muscles are inflamed.

Just recently I found a natural pain reliever called ReliefMd. It is made up of all natural oils like spearmint, wintergreen, etc. and I have had some good results with this. You put a drop right above your lip, right under your nose, and then apply it to the affected area.

A few weeks ago I started taking melatonin natural supplements. These are to be taken at night before going to bed. It helps you sleep well, but it also is supposed to lessen your headaches during the day. I have seen a difference since I have used this. You take three tablets under your tongue. They have an orange flavor.

Sometimes drinking Chamomile tea can help soothe the muscles in your head. This has worked a number of times for me.

All these things are worth a try. They have helped lessen the pain of my migraines. Any of these can be found online or at a health store.
