Cataracts are a condition that affects many elderly people. The eye disease causes a cloud to appear in the person's vision, which makes it difficult for them to see clearly. Many people eventually end up having a short, painless surgery to remove their cataracts. Although the operation is safe, for the most part, painless, and removes the cataract, according to many doctors, the operation is totally unnecessary. Some doctors believe that the majority of people with cataracts can treat and prevent cataracts with natural remedies and can avoid surgery altogether.

Of course, the best way to naturally treat and prevent cataracts is to catch it in its early stages. Don't wait until your sight becomes completely overshadowed with clouds and dark spots before you try any of these natural remedies. Most of the natural remedies involve nutritional supplements. Nutritional supplements work to treat and prevent cataracts because the supplements provide protein and nutrients to the eyes, which is often destroyed by the free radicals in the body that causes cataracts.

So the first step in naturally treating and preventing cataracts is to include a number of multivitamins and supplements to your daily diet to strengthen your eyes. Include at least 50 mgs of the B vitamins, 15 mgs of beta-carotene, 30 mgs of zinc, 400 ius of vitamin E, and 200 mcg of selenium. Another important vitamin is vitamin C. Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants on the market and can treat and prevent cataracts.

Besides the adrenal glands, the lens of the eyes, which is the part of the eye that are damaged, contain more vitamin C than any part of the body. So it is very important to take a high dosage of vitamin C to help strengthen the eyes. Take at least 1,500 mgs a day of vitamin C. Not only will it help prevent and treat cataracts, it will also strengthen your immune system and help reduce illnesses, such as colds and the flu. So, forget the flu shot, increase your vitamin C intake.

Another powerful antioxidant is Glutathione and it's sidekick NAC. Both of these supplements together are very helpful in preventing and treating cataracts. Take 50 mgs a day of glutathione, 500 mgs a day of NAC, and 100 mgs a day of ALA. MSM contains sulfur that helps improve and strengthen the eyesight. Take ½ teaspoon of MSM powder per 100 pounds of body weight once a day. An unnatural build up of protein in the body can cause cataracts, so if you don't digest protein very well, take papain or bromelain to help your body digest protein better.

All these natural remedies can help prevent and treat cataracts without the need for or eliminating surgery.
