Natural Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin

W.S.
Characteristics of oily skin are large pores, thick and coarse texture, overactive oil glands and a shiny appearance. Excess oil tends to attract dirt that can cause bacteria and infection, clogging pores with dead skin cells. However, fewer wrinkles will develop in oily skin because the oil protects and lubricates the skin. Follow this natural skin care routine for oily skin to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Natural Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin - Cleansing

The first step in the natural skin care routine for oily skin is cleansing. Cleansing should be performed twice per day with a neutral ph cleanser and water. You can also use a homemade natural cleanser made with essential oils for oily skin such as eucalyptus, lemongrass and ylang-ylang.

Clean your oily skin for two minutes using the recommended cleaner before rinsing thoroughly. This is best done in the morning upon waking and in the evening before retiring. Blot dry and you're done with step one of the natural skin care routine for oily skin!

Natural Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin - Toning

The second step in the natural skin care routine for oily skin is toning. Toning should be performed twice per day, immediately following cleansing. For oily skin, Aloe Vera juice or witch hazel is best for toning. Make a homemade toner using witch hazel or alcohol using essential oils suitable for oily skin.

Apply the recommended toner to your oily skin and allow the skin to absorb. Follow with a moisturizer (see next step) for oily skin.

Natural Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin - Moisturizing

The third step in the natural skin care routine for oily skin is moisturizing. Moisturize your oily skin twice per day, immediately following the toner. Light lotions and facial oils work best for oily skin. Or, make your own moisturizer with Aloe Vera gel and essential oils for oily skin such as eucalyptus, lemongrass and ylang-ylang.

Apply the recommended moisturizer to clean, dry skin and allow the skin to absorb the moisturizer. Do not over-moisturizer but apply enough for your skin to absorb and use.

Natural Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin - Steaming

The fourth step in the natural skin care routine for oily skin is steaming. Oily skin can benefit from steaming twice per week to help unclog pores and release excess oil. Use herbs that are suited for oily skin such as yarrow and witch hazel. You may also add essential oils to the steam such as eucalyptus, lemongrass and ylang-ylang.

Boil a pan of water and add the herbs and/or essential oil. If using herbs, add about a tablespoon of each herb you wish to use. If using essential oil, add about five drops of each essential oil you wish to use. Put a towel over your head and the pan to contain the steam.

Natural Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin - Exfoliating

The final step in the natural skin care routine for oily skin is exfoliating. A gentle oatmeal scrub with cornmeal or powdered herbs used once per week is sufficient for oily skin. You can purchase a natural oatmeal scrub or make one of your own but don't use an abrasive scrub that will stimulate oil production.

Apply the oatmeal scrub to clean, dry skin and gently rub for a few minutes. Do not scrub vigorously as this can also stimulate oil production. Then rinse clean to complete the natural skin care routine for oily skin.
