When you live in a windy climate, your skin can become dry, itchy and uncomfortable in general. Not only that, they dryness leaves a powdery coating to your skin that just isn't very attractive. Here are a few natural ways to keep your skin healthy in windier climates. These are also perfect for keeping your skin moisturized against cold, dry air of winter.
Try to avoid conventional lotions and creams that contain alcohol. The alcohol can dry out your skin cells. The oils in these lotions simply cover the cells with oil, but the cells are actually still dry so you need to keep applying more lotion or cream to keep your skin appearing moisturized. You should consider using natural oils that contain no alcohol and nourish your cells to keep them healthy and truly moisturized.
The best natural oil moisturizers are coconut oil, jojoba oil and hemp seed oil. Coconut oil feeds your cells to keep them moisturized and healthy. Jojoba oil is a humectant and a natural thin wax. The humectant properties draw moisture to the top layers of your skin to keep your skin cells moisturized from within your body. The wax-like properties of jojoba oil create a thicker protective barrier against wind damage to your skin to keep it from becoming dehydrated. Hemp seed oil contains essential fatty acids that help keep your skin cells healthy and glowing. But hemp seed oil doesn't build as thick of a protective barrier as coconut oil and jojoba oil. A combination of all three are your best option, as each has its own properties to help protect your skin from wind damage.
Another sure way to keep your skin healthy in windier climates is to keep your body hydrated. Make sure to drink plenty of water, or watered-down fruit juices to keep your body hydrated. The skin is about 10-20 percent water, so internal hydration is an essential part of keeping your skin healthy in windy climates.
To keep your skin healthy in windy climates, don't let your house get too dry. When you kick on the heater, the air in your home dries out, and the moisture in your skin evaporates quickly. Use a vaporizer or humidifier to keep indoor air moisturized to prevent your skin from drying out.
If your skin does appear dry, try a little steam facial or warm compresses to push moisture back into your skin cells. Make sure to apply a natural oil after your treatment to lock in the moisture so your skin looks and feels healthy. Steam treatments also increase circulation in the skin, so moisture is coming at your skin both internally and externally. If you use a bit too much natural oil, just allow your skin to absorb the oil for a few minutes and then wipe the excess off with a clean, dry cotton cloth.
It's easy to keep your skin healthy in windier and cold climates. These natural methods work to help you look your best, without spending a lot of money. You'll probably find, just like I did, that these natural methods are much more effective at keeping your skin moisturized than any of the conventional products.
