Natural Ways to Moisturize and Condition Your Hair

Give Your Locks a Healthy Sheen

Anonymous Brandy
Keeping your hair properly hydrated is very important. Conditioning your hair can fight against dehydration and protect it from other types of damaging as well. Using a conditioner can make your hair much smoother and more manageable. Conditioners help to smooth the scales of the cuticle, giving hair a healthier and shinier appearance.

One of the best ways to condition and moisturize your hair is with natural products. Many store purchased products can contain chemicals such as alcohol, that can potentially cause damage to your tresses. Using an all natural product will help you to avoid exposing your precious locks to those potentially damaging chemicals on a frequent basis.

It is a good idea to check labels when you purchase any hair products and try to avoid those that contain alcohol. It can dry and damage your hair.

Below I have included a few recipes for natural hair conditioners that will moisturize, help repair damage, and protect against further damages.

Olive oil is a great natural conditioner for hair. You can apply it directly to your tresses and massage into the scalp for a deep conditioning. Put a shower cap over your hair and leave on over night. Shampoo and rinse as normal in the morning. If you would like to speed the process along, put the shower cap on and wrap a warm or hot wet towel around your head and let sit for 1 - 2 hours. Reheat the towel as needed. Be careful not to burn yourself!

Coconut Oil can also be used in the same manner. Saturate your locks, cover up with a shower cap, let them marinate, and rinse. Use the hot towel method for a deeper conditioning.

Avocado and Olive oil Conditioner

Take ½ of an avocado and mash it in a mixing bowl. You will want the final results to look like a paste. Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and mix well. If you would like a more fragrant conditioner, add ½ of a very ripe banana to your avocado and olive oil and mash well. Spread the finished paste throughout your hair and let sit for up to one hour. Rinse well.

Mayonnaise Conditioning Treatment

The idea of putting mayonnaise on your hair instead of your sandwich does seem a bit strange, but the results you get are fantastic regardless of the obvious strange factor. Simply slather about 1 tablespoon or so of full fat mayonnaise throughout your hair. You have to use the full fat mayo because the non or low fat versions do not have the same end results. After saturating the hair and scalp, cover with a shower cap and let sit for about 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly!

Eggs

Using eggs to condition the hair is a great way to get a squeaky clean and luminous appearance.

For a quick clean and shine, whip 1 egg into 1 cup of water. Make sure that the temperature of the water is not too warm! You could inadvertently cook the egg! Lather the whipped mixture into your hair and let it sit for a few minutes. Remember to use a cool rinse when washing the egg lather from your tresses. You could easily end up with poached egg on top of your head if the temperature of the water is too high when rinsing.

Deep Conditioning Egg Treatment

This recipe is for a pre-shampoo deep conditioning treatment that is sure to cure your locks of dryness right down to the roots. It is a great treatment for damaged hair and helps to restore a radiant and healthy glow. Mix 3 eggs, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Apply the mixture to your locks, cover with a shower cap, and let sit for about 30 minutes. When your 30 minutes is up, shampoo as usual.

Hair comes in many ways and not all treatments will be successful for each type. Try each one and find what works best for you and your lovely locks.
