So what should I do if I have one of the recalled ground beef products?
If you find that you have one of the recalled ground beef products, you should discard the product or get a refund from the grocery store where you bought the ground beef.
Refrain from trying to do your own investigation by touching, smelling, or tasting the ground beef product. If you have touched the ground beef, make sure to wash your hand in warm water for at least 20-seconds to prevent contaminating any other food you may touch.
If you believe you have already consumed any of these products, you may want to monitor your health and contact your physician for precautionary purposes.
What is E.coli and what are the symptoms?
Escherichia coli better known as E.coli is a common type of bacteria. E.coli, actually lives inside your intestines, where it helps to break down and digest the food that you eat. However, there are certain types of E.coli known as strains that can be harmful when it goes into the body's blood stream and may cause serious problems for your health.
According to FSIS "E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure." Young children, elderly persons, and those with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to the effects of foodborne illness from bacteria like E.coli.
