Nature's Path Flax Plus Pumpkin Raisin Crunch - Product Review

MStephany
My family likes many Nature's Path products, so when I had an opportunity to try out their new Organic Flax Plus Pumpkin Raisin Crunch, I knew I had to give it a whirl. The picture on the box, after all, looked like a tasty combination of granola and flakes, which would be a reprieve for my family from straight flakes in milk or our usual granola and yogurt breakfast. Perfect, I thought. Something to please the family.

The bright purple box was attractive and told me everything I needed to know. And the nutritional information was, for the most part, fairly good. A 3/4 cup serving (with milk) provides 240 calories, 4 g of fat (650 mg of which are Omega 3) , 9 g of fibre and 6 g of protein. The 41 g of carbohydrates (12 g of sugar) put me off. I'm not diabetic (no one in my family is), but the carb content was a bit high on the scale for my liking. But then, that's what you get when you have raisins in the mix.

How this product tasted, however, was what was the real test. My son and I were the first up to try this product. We liked the chewiness of the raisins, the crispy crunchiness of the flakes (which didn't go all soggy in milk) and the firmer texture of the pumpkin seeds. The granola clusters gave a nice contrast to the softer textured flakes. It was a wonderful textural experience. If you don't like texture in your food, though, this might be a sensory overload for you. My daughter liked the product too. And my husband was disappointed that we didn't have any more for him to have again the next day. That's high praise from someone who really detests cereals as a rule.

The price was reasonable (about $4.50) for an organic cereal, especially considering the flax, which is an expensive ingredient. Would I purchase this product again? Yes, as a treat.
