Navel Acadeny Plans for 2008 Classes and Workshops

NAVEL MANEUVERS, Navel Academy announces January schedule for 2008 events. Navel Academy has been teaching Middle-Eastern Dance for over 30 years. Helena Zahara is on of the featured Dancers in the new book Stories From Inside the Mirror, A belly Dance Anthology by Miriam Cunha and Robert Rohloff. . Ms. Zahara is the director of the Academy and Troupe Jamileh Malika and has performed all of the country. Troupe Jamileh Malika is a dance troupe open to to all women who want to participate in the spirit of the dance. Helena has a life time of dance and performance experience and teaches students how to design you own creative costumes. Helena is of Lebanese decent and comes from generations of professional Belly Dancers. Helena teaches a variety of styles that include tribal fusion, Latin fusion, night club, cabaret, Lebanese, Egyptian, Cane, Dance, and Middle-Eastern Line Dances. Helena is known nationally for teaching how to work with a cape or a circular veil.

Why not come have exotic fun while you begin your New Year's workout program for the new year. Exercise like the stars: Sigourney Weaver, Pamela Anderson and of course Shakira. Join the sisterhood of the drum and you dance with other women and feel the spirit of the movement. Learn to identify some of the 72 Middle-Eastern Rhythms, play finger cymbals and dance with a veil and do floor work. Helena incorporates meditate movement and flexibility training into her classes and women learn to express the Goddess from within. We all come from the Goddess. Helena cites that all dances originates from ancient fertility worship and the Mother's of Modern Dance were expression though the movements from the time of creation in the cradle of civilization. This is low impact exercise and is great exercise for expectant mothers, and help older ladies with flexibility. The more flexibility you maintain the younger you look.

WORKSHOP 2-2-2008 Middle-Eastern Line Dance 10-12:30
Circle Veil 1:30-4:00 $45 each or $75 for the day.

The morning workshop will include Miserlou, Dabkes, Tsamkos, and Arabic Shake. This will include some Greek, Lebanese, and Israeli Dances. Come learn the dances you can do at weddings and festivals. The afternoon workshop with be on using Helena's unique 3/4 circle veil. Helena is one of the few instructor in the country that teaches this very unique type of veil which is excellent for male dances. Helena learned this style of veil from Marta Skill the author of the complete belly dancer.

Hafla 7:30-10:00 Tickets $7.00

The Halfa is a chance to show off what you know, come perform or enjoy and wide variety of dance styles. Come watch or participate in an Authentic dance performance with many different style of dance. There will be dancers from around the regional Midwest area.
