Whatever the case may be looking for a cable service provider that meets your budget can be somewhat difficult. And if you are someone who just recently moved out and are living on your own the thought of buying cable may seem a little daunting and pricey.
So, here are some tips to help you decide what may be best for you. Do your homework and always comparison shop to find the best deals.
If you want cable TV, the good thing about it is that there are no up-front costs and you usually do not have to sign a contract that will make you commit to having that service for a specified amount of time (like those annoying cell phone contracts you are stuck with).
In addition, cable TV can sometimes come out a lot cheaper than the other options as long as you stick with basic packages. Plus, you can also find deals by using the same company for multiple services such as getting cable TV and high speed Internet through the same company.
The only problem with cable TV is that you may find a great price on cable TV, but then the company ends up increasing the price after a certain amount of time or the cable channels allotted to your service type end up being changed. In fact, cable TV receives the most complaints over service.
If cable doesn't sound like something you are interested in, you may want to consider a dish. Satellite TV, which comes from either the Dish Network or DirecTV historically has higher customer satisfaction than cable.
The downside is that you will have to sign a contract and commit yourself to that service for a set amount of time. In addition, you will have to pay for the installation and equipment necessary to install the dish. This can be pricey but then you have to weigh the opportunity cost of whether it means more to you that you pay more to avoid what you don't want from cable.
If neither of the two above options seem right for you, you can look into fiber-optic cable which works through the phone lines. The only problem is that this type of service is very limited and is slowly being offered to different communities.
Look around and realize that a deal on cable is just waiting for you. The trick is to be patient and look out for sale prices and other promotions.
