Nazi Naming Parents Lose Custody of the Fourth Child

COMMENTARY | The fourth child of Heath and Deborah Campbell, a white supremacist couple who had given their previous three children Nazi inspired names, has been seized by officials of the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, according to ABC News.

The Campbells claim their child, named Hons, has been kidnapped. New Jersey officials will not comment on the reasons for the seizure of the newborn but hint that there is abuse and/or neglect going on. The previous three children, Joyce Lynn Aryan Nation Campbell, Honsz Lynn Himler Jeannie Campbell and Adolf Hitler Campbell, have been in foster care for nearly the past three years. New Jersey officials claim it was not just the unusual and provocative names they gave their children that caused them to lose custody.

What the nature of the abuse and/or neglect aside from the Campbells' giving their kids names that would likely get them beaten up in the school play yard is not clear. If it is just because of the names, then a very bad precedence has been set unless the action is reversed in the courts.

Stipulating that it is not a good idea to be a Nazi or to name ones kids after Nazis, is it any of the government's business what parents name their kids? If so, then how far does the principle extend.

Let us suppose that a devout Muslim couple names one of their children Osama in honor of the dead Al Qaida terrorist. Will child protective services swoop down to snatch the kid from the loving arms of him parents to save him from being brought up bearing one of the most hated names in America? One suspects that the politically correct notions that government bureaucrats hold would prevent them from rescuing a baby that is named after an Islamist mass murder.

One thinks that everything else being equal, the Campbells ought to get their kids back. For one thing, in later years, they will likely experience the joys of youth rebellion against their racist beliefs. One can imagine young Adolf, upon obtaining his majority, changing his name to Joe Bob and starting to date Jewish and black women just to spite his parents. The justice would not be as arbitrary as it is now being inflicted by the state of New Jersey, but it would be poetic.

There is no law against ignorance and stupid. There is no law against being a member of a hate organization. It is a terrible thing to name a child a stupid name... at least the kids can change their names legally, but the mental damage is done then.Where do we draw the line? Do you want the governemtn deciding for you? Who decides where the line begins and ends. Who's version of moral and decent do you want?I disagree with the names, but the parents do have the right to name their kids what they want. The poor kids will have to deal with it. They'll probably get that #$%$ whooped everyday at school. What law did they use to take the kids away? There is no law against parents with poor judgement in names or poor judgement or even hate mongers. So now do we have to ask the government if they approve of the names we choose for our kids. I suppose it is ok to name your child George Washington Smith, but not Benedict Arnold Smith! What ya gonna do to someone that names their child Jane Fonda Jones, Mao Tse Tung Gahan? Do you through them in jail or take away there kids for naming one Baby Doc Thomas, Joeseph Stalin Mincey. Yes our feelings run deep for anything #$%$ociated with the evil, demented and limited minds called Nazi and any symbol from their era. The white supremists are morons, little people that teach and preach hate. There type has always been with us. But you can't legislate against hate, you can't control someone's thoughts... Or can we? You can't have Freedom of Speech, but only certain kinds of Free Speech. You can't have Freedom but stipulate what Freedom we can have. It is a two edged sword that sometimes cuts you. Some people in the United States have a problem with children named Jesus... but it is a very traditional name in certain cultures and a very respected name. Who knows why Frank named his kid Moon Zappa, but we didn't take her away from her family? There are some strange names out there. I suppose New Jersey is trying to become the California of the East... Another Nanny StateThere are many things I don't agree with and would not do, and things that don't seem quite right... but it is someone else's choice and not mine. I wish the names were banned for all time, but that would not be right, because it is restaining choice and freedom.
