-----------------------------------------------------
7:23pm -- The 2009 NBA Draft Second Round is On the Way!
-----------------------------------------------------
7:22pm With the thirtieth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select Christian Eyenga from Congo.
The guard/forward from Congo is an interesting choice and will possibly be an interesting player to come off of the bench for the Cavs next season. He hasn't been seen much, but he does have a lot of athleticism that could really pay off for the Cavs in a couple of years.
-----------------------------------------------------
7:16pm With the twenty-ninth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select Toney Douglas from Florida State University.
Douglas is a good guard from FSU who is athletic and can play well on defense. He isn't well known, but he can make his own shot, and is a natural combo guard that the Lakers are drafting before sending him over to the New York Knicks.
-----------------------------------------------------
7:11pm With the twenty-eighth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Wayne Ellington from North Carolina.
Ellington is a great shooter that many feel was under-valued in the draft, and a real quality player this deep into the 2009 NBA Draft. With good range and the ability to create his own shot, he is quick and a good finisher that could be a really solid player on offense for the Wolves.
-----------------------------------------------------
7:05pm With the twenty-seventh pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies select DeMarre Carroll from Missouri.
An energy player, Carroll brings a lot of all-around skills with himself, and he could be a good player to help pick up the "junk" balls for the Grizzlies. He will also help with that nice burst of energy coming off of the bench, and should be a nice fit for the Grizzlies.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:58pm With the twenty-sixth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls select Taj Gibson from USC.
Gibson is a big forward that has long arms and nice height. He can block shots and rebound well, especially on the offensive end, and could be a great post defender for the Bulls next season. A hard worker, he will be a good compliment to Noah.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:53pm With the twenty-fifth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder select Rodrique Beaubois from Guadeloupe.
The big guard could be a nice move for the Thunder, as he comes over from France, and could be a nice quick player who can create his own shot. A good feel for the game, he could use some more time to develop, and that could lead to him being a great player off the bench in a couple of seasons.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:49pm With the twenty-fourth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Dallas Mavericks select B.J. Mullens from Ohio State.
The big man from Ohio State is expected to be a good NBA big man, but he is a ways off from making that big difference, as he wasn't even starting all the games for his college team last season. If Dallas is patient, he could be a great long term player for them. For now though, he will need to be a good role player off of the bench.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:44pm With the twenty-third pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Omri Casspi from Israel.
This is the first player from Israel that could make the NBA, and the big forward looks like he could be a greatly tooled player. The Kings are looking at a good complementary pick with Casspi, and he could really work as a tough young player of the future for Sacramento.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:39pm With the twenty-second pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Portland Trailblazer select Victor Claver from Spain.
Claver is a forward from Spain that has lottery pick talent, but could have a high upside when he finally decides to comf to the NBA. This is a long-term pick though, who may not be in the NBA for a couple of seasons.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:33pm With the twenty-first pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the New Orleans Hornets select guard Darren Collison from UCLA.
Collison was very good at UCLA, and is an extremely efficient guard that could bring some stability to the bench for the Hornets. He looks to be a great guy to spell Chris Paul this coming season, and if he improves his scoring ability, he could even move to playing on the court with Paul. The biggest asset for Collison is that he is extremely fast.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:27pm With the twentieth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Utah Jazz select Eric Maynor from Virginia Commonwealth.
A true point guard with a nice feel for the game, Maynor has good size for the position. He was a really good player at VCU, and brings leadership with him to the NBA. A big-shot guy, he could be a nice player off of the bench for Utah next season.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:22pm With the nineteenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks select Jeff Teague from Wake Forest.
Teague is really good with the ball in his hand, and could be a great player in transition with the Hawks. He is a good shooter that is great at the free throw line, and just needs to improve on defense to help his longevity with the Atlanta Hawks.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:19pm With the eighteenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Ty Lawson from North Carolina.
Lawson is extremely quick, and now has a national title to his name from North Carolina last season. He is good at open shots, shoots a high percentage, and can drive to the hoop to take the contact. This makes the third point guard that Minnesota has drafted, creating an interesting dynamic in the team for next year.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:13pm With the seventeenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select Jrue Holiday from UCLA
Holiday made the all-freshman team for the Pac-10 last season, and appears to have a lot of up-side as a player in the NBA. There is not that much that he has proven yet, averaging just over eight points per game, so he could be a ways out for the 76ers, but could be a great point guard of the future if he develops that talent.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:08pm With the sixteenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls select James Johnson from Wake Forest
Johnson scored 15 points per game at Wake Forest as a small forward who can also play the power forward. He can redound well, and defends more than one position quite well. It will be interesting to see where the Bulls decide to play him in the rotation, but he could be a big man that plays the power forward position off the bench with a lot of energy.
-----------------------------------------------------
6:02pm With the fifteenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons select Austin Daye from Gonzaga.
Setting aside that David Stern pronounced Gonzaga wrong for the third time in about 6 years, Daye is a really skilled player that could become an NBA star. The thought process on Daye was that he doesn't have the body to hold up to the NBA at only 195ish pounds at the 4-spot. If he can put on some muscle and weight, he could be a very good player in the NBA.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:56pm With the fourteenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Phoenix Suns select Earl Clark from Louisville.
Earl Clark is a good size player from Louisville that is a good post up and face-up player that could be an intriguing look in the NBA for the Suns. He may be a few years out from being good to great, but if the Suns give him time he could be a great low-post forward.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:50pm With the thirteenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacers select Tyler Hansbrough from North Carolina.
The best player in college basketball over the past four years, this is much higher than he was anticipated to be drafted. He won a National Championship with North Carolina, and brings with him size and a great understanding of the game of basketball. He is a three time first team All-American, and is the all-time leading scorer from the ACC, who was a constant double-double type player.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:45pm With the twelfth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select guard Gerald Henderson from Duke.
Henderson averaged 16.5 points per game with Duke, and has a nice wing span that could prove beneficial in the NBA. He has a good shot and is good at driving in on the basket. If he can continue to improve, he could be a really good player on both sides of the ball, and really help out the Bobcats for a couple of seasons.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:39pm With the eleventh pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the New Jersey Nets select forward Terrence Williams from Louisville.
A great passer and rebounder, Williams is very versatile and a well-rounded player on both offense and defense. The experts think he will be an outstanding player on defense, and has the chance to be really good in the NBA. He will definitely get the minutes in New Jersey next season to try and prove it. Williams is also the first senior taken in this draft.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:33pm With the tenth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select guard Brandon Jennings from Italy.
Jennings went from high school to Europe, and comes to the NBA without playing college basketball. This was an experiment by Jennings, and the creative left-hander could be a good point guard in the NBA. He has a lot of talent and quickness, but may take a while to grow as a point guard this next season for the Bucks.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:27pm With the ninth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors select DeMar DeRozan from USC.
DeRozan is very young, having only played one season for USC, and was selected as the Pac-10 Tournament MVP last season. He has a very high up-side that plays well in the open floor and is versatile on defense. His youth serves him well, and he looks to be a surprise star in the NBA if he can continue to work on his feel for the game and ability to create his own shots.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:21pm With the eighth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select Jordan Hill from the University of Arizona.
The big guy scored 18 points per game last season, leading the Arizona Wildcats in scoring, and racking up 11 rebounds per game as well. He is a really good athlete that could give the Knicks a lot of physical help on offense and defense, and this is a guy the Knicks probably thought would have a very high up-side for the next few seasons.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:16pm With the seventh pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors select Stephen Curry from Davidson College.
Curry led all of college basketball in scoring last season with more than 28 points per game, and the Warriors get what is probably the best shooter in this year's NBA Draft. He is a multi-tooled player that could easily become a star if he can keep shooting at the high percentage that he has been able to do in college. He has extensive range shooting the ball as well, making him very exciting. The son of an NBA player, he has the knowledge necessary to succeed on the next level.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:10pm With the sixth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Jonny Flynn from Syracuse.
The "experts" expected Curry to go to Minnesota, but the Wolves decided that Flynn coupled with Rubio could be a nice offensive punch. Flynn has a 40 inch vertical leap, and averaged 17.4 points per game for Syracuse last season. He gets into the lane, and could be a real treat to watch for Wolves fans during the next couple of years in the NBA. Flynn is very much remembered for a 67 minute game he played during an extensive overtime match during last year at Syracuse.
-----------------------------------------------------
5:03pm With the fifth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Ricky Rubio from Spain.
A quick point guard from overseas, Rubio showed in the Olympics that he really was a great talent, and now at only 18 years of age becomes the first NBA player to be born in the 1990's. The Timberwolves look to put him into the starting line-up if he can prove his stuff, and will be complimented by the #6 pick in a matter of moments. A great passer, he will definitely rack up the assists in the NBA next season.
-----------------------------------------------------
4:57pm With the fourth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Tyreke Evans from Memphis.
Evans was the 2009 Conference USA Tournament MVP, and stands at 6 feet 5 inches as a guard. He could be a big talent in the NBA, and averaged 17.1 PPG to go along with 2+ steals per game. He likes to drive, and get into the lane to finish almost anytime that he wants. He will definitely help to speed up the game for the Kings when he takes the floor.
-----------------------------------------------------
4:51pm With the third pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder select James Harden from Arizona State
This is a good addition to the Thunder roster, as it adds even more young depth to a team that is starting to round the corner. Harden is a great offensive threat, and could go right into the starting line-up at shooting guard to tandem with Kevin Durant to really put up a lot of points. This will also give Westbrook more of a ball-handling job at the point guard position. Harden was also a first-team AP All-American in college.
-----------------------------------------------------
4:45pm With the second pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies choose center Hasheem Thabeet from the University of Connecticut.
For a team that needs talent, this is probably a great choice, as Thabeet can rebound and block shots in order to get the fast breaks going for the young Memphis team. The 7 foot 3 inch tower could be a great center piece to both the offensive and defensive end of things for Memphis next season. 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.2 blocks per game were his season averages.
-----------------------------------------------------
4:39pm With the first pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Clippers choose Blake Griffin from Oklahoma.
This pick of Blake Girffin wasn't too much of a surprise, as he is sure to be a star, coming off a season where he posted 30 double-doubles for Oklahoma, and showed he would be a certain player to make the NBA. He is high energy, a good ball handler, and could become the 2009-2010 NBA Rookie of the Year.
-----------------------------------------------------
4:30pm The Los Angeles Clippers Are On The Clock. The Clippers get 5 minutes to decide their pick, but the world seems to know that Blake Griffin will probably go #1.
4:30pm The 2009 NBA Draft has been opened by David Stern, who took time to congratulate the Los Angeles Lakers on their 15th NBA Title, and congratulated Team USA for bringing home the Olympic Gold Medal.
4:06pm The Los Angeles Lakers have sold the #29 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft to the New York Knicks for $3 million.
4:02pm Vince Carter has been traded to Orlando with Ryan Anderson in exchange for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie, and Courtney Lee.
Shaquille O'Neal was traded to Cleveland Cavs for Ben Wallace earlier on Thursday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
