Agent Zero in Trouble

In somewhat shocking news in the basketball world, Gilbert Arenas aka Agent Zero, is being investigated by both the Washington Wizards and the NBA after admitting he stored some unloaded firearms in his locker according to www.espn.com . This news could not have come at a worse time for Arenas, who is having an excellent season so far after recovering from his injuries. According to www.washingtontimes.com, Arenas said that he brought the firearms to his locker on December 9th, until he gave them away to the team's security about a week later. Further investigation will continue regarding the situation, but little is known on whether Arenas will face some sort of suspension from the NBA since weapons have no place in league property.

I think there could have been smarter ways for Arenas to handle this situation. His case was understandable, but hiding guns in your locker just looks too suspicious regardless of a person's status. He could have just traded in his unloaded firearm to the nearest police station for money or a gift card. Gilbert Arenas is considered as one of the league's good guys and is well known for having a strong bond with his fans. He does so much for his community and it would be a major shame if gets in deeper trouble with the law. He does have every right as a citizen to carry around a gun, but because of the NBA's bad reputation, he will be observed under the microscope. This season is considered as Arenas' comeback season because of the injuries he sustained in both 2007 and 2008. Gilbert Arenas is currently playing under his second year of his six-year, $111 million contract he signed with the Wizards on July of 2008.

As for the Washington Wizards' season, they may need to find more ways to collect more wins after winning ten out of twenty seven games. The Wizards seem to have all the talent they need to have a 45 game winning season, but things haven't been clicking together for them. They need to seriously consider the idea of signing both a decent point guard and center. When you have stars like Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, and Gilbert Arenas on your team, you should not expect to lose many games in a season.
