In 2000, he was traded to the Orlando Magic from the Toronto Raptors. He sustained an ankle injury and was limited to only four games on the season. The Magic ended up losing in the first round of the playoffs after being one of the favorites to win the championship.
Then, his injuries diminished until the 2005-06 season. He started experiencing back spasms and missed eight games due to this injury. When he returned, his situation did not fair to be much better. In a January game against the Denver Nuggets, he suffered from severe back spasms and was taken out of the game on a stretcher.
At the start of the 2006-07 season, he missed the first seven games of the season due to back spasms. When he returned, he admitted that he would not be the same player as before. Then, Yao Ming sustained a leg injury that ended his season. T-Mac was able to play the rest of the year but ended up losing in the first round to the Utah Jazz.
In the 2007-08 season, he injured his elbow. When an x-ray was taken, it revealed that it was just a minor strain. This occurred on November 15th. Less than a month later, he left the game due to an ankle injury. Five days later, he injured his left knee. Later that week, he was seen limping during a game and was substituted out. He rested his sore knee for the next eleven games. Then, in April, he sat out due to a sore left shoulder. He missed the last 16 games of the NBA season. He went into surgery on his knee and shoulder that following summer.
Now that the 2008-09 season is underway, Tracy McGrady is injured. His knee was hurt more seriously than in the past. Reports said that he feeling he felt was just like what he felt when this injury first happened. This string of bad luck can only leave a damper on the legacy of McGrady. We can only sit back and speculate on what could have been if McGrady was healthier.
