NBA's New Orleans Hornets Update Classic Uniforms

After Hurricane Katrina left a great portion of Louisiana wanting for better days in 2005, the future of the newly-relocated Hornets (from Charlotte, North Carolina) in New Orleans seemed shaky at best. But with great fortunes, after two seasons spend in relatively-nearby Oklahoma City and then an additional season of great success with MVP candidate Chris Paul staying healthy and reclaiming the fanbase back home to New Orleans Arena, the team finally decided to make a slight cosmetic change.

Using the same relative color scheme and logo as foundations to update the team, the new uniforms now fully reflect the Hornets past, revitalize the team's look of the present day, and look to stay consistent well into the future. The changes are slight, but they are significant in full context. The teal staple of the colors is slightly more blue, a "Creole Blue", in fact; the trim color of purple is now darker, and the gold color is now richer and fuller in look and has become a primary color in the new design.

The letter font is stylized with serifs that convey an antiqued, classic French-Creole script and is apparent in the logo as well as the jerseys, which are emblazoned with the updated letters across the chest. Along with the uniforms themselves, the pinstripes that were somewhat absent from the relocation uniforms of the past seasons (they were only left on the sides of the uniforms) are now brought back on the front and back of the duds as well, just like the Charlotte days of the inaugural season. The V-neck collar is still present, and aside from the script and logo marks on the back of the neck and the butt of the shorts, as well as some sharp and curvy side paneling, the uniforms look like a reinvention of the Charlotte Hornets' original jerseys.

The logo is very similar to the Charlotte/New Orleans logo of yesterday, aside from the font change, the removal of lines on Hugo Hornet (to make it more three-dimensional), and look of "arrogance" (?) that is on Hugo's face (a change from the scowling expression the mascot hornet wore for the 20 previous seasons, starting in 1988).

Overall, the new threads are quite becoming and fit the look of a team that belongs to such a cultured and unique city. With many jersey changes being made in vain to boost merchandise sells and keep teams in the know with superficial changes that are merely status quo, the Hornets' new-old look will keep the organization from having to make any unnecessary visual changes in the future.
