NBC Olympic Coverage Continues with Lindsey Jacobellis, Men's Figure Skating

Sherry Wight
NBC Olympic coverage continues today as we enter the 5th day of the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. On today's Olympics schedule are five medal rounds; there were originally to be six, but poor conditions forced the postponement of the Men's Downhill combined event, which will include newly minted men's downhill bronze medalist Bode Miller among its starters when it runs. The same weather conditions also cancelled a women's downhill training run.

NBC Olympic coverage on local networks will kick off at 3 PM and go until 5 PM. The broadcast will feature women's 10 kilometer and men's 12.5 kilometer biathlon action. Watch to see if the United States is able to claim its first ever medal in biathlon as American Sara Studebaker takes to the snow behind 2010 7.5 kilometer Olympic champion Anastazia Kuzmina of Slovakia.

NBC Olympic coverage will continue at 8 PM with its slate of primetime action. Viewers in Eastern and Central time zones will get to see the 2010 Vancouver Men's Olympic Figure Skating short programs live, while those in Mountain and Pacific zones will once again be relegated to the scourge of tape delay. Prominent players in 2010 men's Olympic figure skating action include a trio from the United States in World Champion Evan Lysacek, US Champion Jeremy Abbott, and the ever-entertaining Johnny Weir; France's Brian Joubert; Torino silver medalist Stephane Lambiel of Switzerland; and Russia's Evgeni Plushenko, who emerged from a long retirement to defend his 2006 Olympic gold. Look for the consistent Lysacek and the powerhouse Plushenko to get the competition off to an exciting start. Click for a preview.

In addition to figure skating, the evening NBC Olympic coverage today will feature the medal round of women's snowboard cross, featuring 2006 Torino silver-but-could've-been-gold medalist Lindsey Jacobellis, as well as the women's 500 meter speed skating medal competition. Jacobellis notably fell near the finish line at the 2006 Games while exercising a preemptive celebratory move and look to redeem herself today.

Other NBC-affiliated networks will also offer event coverage today. The USA Network will feature the 2010 Olympic debut of Curling, which CNBC will offer up doses of Curling, Men's Hockey and Women's Hockey from 2 until 11:30 PM.
