NBC Picks Up "Wonder Woman" TV Series: What NBC Actresses Could Play Wonder Woman, and is Taylor Cole Tailor-made for the Role?

Aida Ekberg
NBC has picked up the "Wonder Woman" TV series. So what NBC actresses could play Wonder Woman, and is Taylor Cole tailor-made for the role? The network certainly doesn't have to look far to find lovely ladies to fill her star-spangled boots.

It was a bit surprising that NBC picked up the Wonder Woman TV series pilot after previously turning it down, but, according to Entertainment Weekly, the same event that ousted Keith Olbermann from MSNBC (the Comcast takeover) is responsible for the network's change of heart. It's definitely going to be a tough task to make the TV series anything but campy, but that's exactly what NBC is hoping to do, and, luckily, the network has experience with plenty of actresses that would be perfect for the role. Here's a look at some NBC actresses that could don Wonder Woman's sexy costume (and I'm hoping they go for a grittier version of the old-school outfit like they did for the new Captain America movie, not the boring new comic book version with pants):

Taylor Cole from "Heroes" and "The Event"

Taylor Cole already has superhero experience from one show. She played private Rachel Mills, a superhero hunter with super powers of her own, in "Heroes". And she's obviously one of the actresses here that gets lots of love from NBC, also scoring a role on "The Event" as assassin Vicky Roberts. But if you need further proof that this brunette beauty is tailor-made for the Wonder Woman role, just check her out wearing the iconic outfit here.

Saffron Burrows from "My Own Worst Enemy"

I'm just mad about Saffron...especially the idea of her donning Wonder Woman's costume. There's just something that screams "Amazonian goddess" about the statuesque stunner. However, the 38-year-old might be a tad over-the-hill for the role.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw from "Undercovers"

And here's another hottie from a cancelled NBC show that would make an interesting choice. I don't see why Wonder Woman has to be white, and I'd definitely go ga-ga over Gugu in anything.

Summer Glau from "The Cape"

I love basking in Summer Glau's beautiful glow, but it's wasted in this goofy superhero show (NBC just has a real problem with wasting beautiful actresses on bombs).

Minka Kelly from "Friday Night Lights"

She's definitely one of the sexiest actresses in the world right now (Esquire even named her its sexiest woman last year), so it's hard not to imagine that viewers would tune in just to see her in Wonder Woman's costume. However, her role in "The Roommate" might lead her and costar Leighton Meester to bigger, better careers on the big screen.

Olivia Munn from "Perfect Couples"

This new NBC show is far from perfect, and fanboys would rather see their muse in a Wonder Woman outfit than playing an overbearing, nagging, non-fantasy type of gal (although I think she'd be a better choice if the new Wonder Woman series was going to be campy).

So who will NBC choose? Only time will tell, but news on what actresses are up for the role will definitely drum up plenty of publicity for the new show (a la the women of "The Dark Knight Rises"), so NBC could have just lassoed a real hit here.

I said it back in '04 and I'll say it again, Taylor Cole would make a GREAT Wonder Woman for TV. Now that NBC is going forward with WW TV pilot due out in September, I say they need to consider her since she did star in NBC's The Event as well on Heroes, she deserves consideration. She's athletic, is a decent actress, has the looks and that signature smile, she's a relative unknown, and has the charm and charisma to pull of the role, in my humble opinion.
