NBC's Earl Still Has a Lot of Work to Do

A few years ago NBC debuted a new hit program starring Jason Lee called My Name Is Earl. My Name Is Earl is about Earl Hickey. At one point Earl was pretty much a bum who, along with his friends, caused a lot of trouble. Now Earl has had a change of heart and believes in karma and in doing good things. Earl then makes a list of all the things he has done wrong and promises to make up for at least one thing each day.

Some Earl fans have done their homework and taken stills of the list from the show and compiled a list of all the items on the list. The list has now been circulating around the internet so I thought it'd be fun to take a look at it.

Earl has been doing some pretty good work so far. Earl started with 259 items on his list and has added some items to make it 268 items. During the first season Earl has completed 36 of his missions and at least a dozen more in the second season.

Some of the tasks that Earl does are very short and easy. For example in one episode Earl decides to make up for always taking a penny from the "Take a penny, leave a penny" tray. To make up for all of his years of taking pennies Earl goes and puts a pile of pennies in the tray.

Other tasks of Earl's are more complicated like the time he wanted to make up for burning down at barn at camp and decides to build a new ostrich pen for the Right Choice Ranch. Some of Earl's other tasks have been helping Joy win the Balboa & Sons Mother and Daughter Prettiest Pretty Princess Pageant, quit smoking, gets together his band again, and even became a kid's slave for one day for making him think the boogeyman was real.

But forget about the tasks he is done with, if you watch the show you've probably seen most of them. Let's talk about some of the things Earl still needs to do to finish his list.

Number 148 on Earl's list is to make up for accidentally neutering Joy's breeding dog. That will be an interesting episode just to see how one can accidentally neuter a dog. Of course I don't think it's possible to un-neuter a dog so it will be interesting to see how Earl makes up for it too.

Number 89 on Earl's list is that he broke into someone's house, had a party, didn't clean it up and left. All this time I thought Earl was dumb but that's actually a genius idea. Again I wonder how they will resolve this. Maybe Earl will throw another party, but clean it up this time.

Number 3 says that Earl copped a feel off old Ms. Jones but that he thinks she liked it. Hmm...this is a dilemma, if you cop a feel and they like it was it really wrong? I guess so.

Another item on Earl's list says that he had a garage sale while house-sitting for neighbors. Another excellent idea for Earl; I'm starting to not care at all if Earl fixes these things and instead read the rest of the list just to get some great ideas for pranks. Like number 143, fart in Joy's face.

Earl's 117th thing on his list is that he kicked a cat trying to see if it would land on its feet and the cat may have been killed. Personally I don't think he has to make up for this one. Earl was just curious and conducted an experiment for the sake of science. Besides, they say curiosity killed the kitten. Number 67, running over Randy's cat, is one he should probably make up for, unless that was also part of the "cat landing on their feet" experiment.

So as you can see. Earl still has many more tasks to complete; it should be an exciting couple of seasons for the Earl fans. I know I'm looking forward to when Earl tries to make up for telling Joy that Bruce Willis is a ghost (Number 152).
