I remember the first time I ever participated in a competition based on NCAA brackets, and I was still a little kid. My dad was teaching at a high school, and all of his teacher buddies had a pool going and whoever had the most correct bracket (based on the number of matches with the actual results) would win 75% of the pool. The second place finisher got 20%, and the third place finisher got 5%. My dad isn't a huge basketball fan, and he's not a gambler either, but he decided to join in anyway. One day after he came home from school he handed me his blank bracket and said "Here, kiddo, fill this out for me." I knew what a bracket thanks to good old tv, so I sat there and picked the teams that sounded the best to my 6 year old self, and I wrote them in with sparkly blue crayon. My dad laughed when I handed it back to him, and he handed it in to his teacher buddies jokingly. Guess what? I won! Without knowing anything about basketball, let alone NCAA teams and their records, I had managed to create a better bracket than over 50 adults who had actually put a good amount of thought into their submissions. That was really neat, and my dad let me keep the cash prize I won(I had to save it of course)! It was awesome, and now I fill out a bracket for him every year, even though I'm a whole lot older now!
Good luck on your brackets and may the best men and women win (children, too)!
