NCAA Tournament Schedule 2010 Day 4 Preview

Robert Dougherty
The NCAA tournament schedule 2010 is showing a clear pattern. On day one and three, the NCAA tournament schedule 2010 said goodbye to countless high seeds and favorites. But to balance that out, day two had the vast majority of high seeds win, mostly in blowouts. Therefore, since yesterday had some of the biggest upsets in years, today will have the remaining favorites win comfortably, in an anti-climactic end to the weekend. If the NCAA tournament schedule 2010 goes like that in day four, it will be a relief to the likes of Syracuse, Duke, Ohio State, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Yesterday had Northern Iowa and St. Mary's surprise the nation, but today has a few less mid-majors in action. The biggest upset winner left for today is Cornell, even though their win over Temple wasn't a major shock. However, a former mid-major Cinderella can start things off with a bang, by knocking off another No. 1 seed.

Today's NCAA tournament schedule 2010 starts at 12:10 pm est, as top seeded Syracuse faces Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are back to their old position as NCAA underdogs, although they tend to do better as Cinderellas than as favorites. Today, they are certainly an underdog to the Orange, even though Arinze Onuaku is still absent.

St. Mary's stole Gonzaga's thunder yesterday, so now it's up to the Zags to keep the West Coast Conference perfect in March. The WCC is 1-0 against the Big East, but Gonzaga may be more of an underdog than St. Mary's was against Villanova.

After this first game, there are just two more pods on the NCAA tournament schedule 2010 today. Four games will be played simultaneously in mid-afternoon, starting with Ohio State against Georgia Tech at 2:20. The Buckeyes have become the new favorite in the Midwest region, but if they fall, then the Midwest will be in irreversible chaos.

At 2:30 pm, Northern Iowa will get their next opponent, as Maryland faces Michigan State. All of a sudden, the winner of this game becomes favored for the Elite Eight, although few will root for them. Then at approximately 2:40, West Virginia takes on Missouri, with the winner to face invisible Cinderella Washington.

At 2:50 pm, the NCAA tournament schedule 2010 has its biggest mid-major story of the day, as Cornell takes on Wisconsin. The Badgers barely withstood Wofford, in one of Friday's few thrillers, while the Big Red was nearly perfect against Temple. If Cornell wins, they get Kentucky in what would be the David vs Goliath showdown of the Sweet 16.

Finally, three games wrap up the NCAA tournament schedule 2010 for round two. At approximately 4:50, Pittsburgh faces Xavier in a rematch of a tight Sweet 16 game last season. Now the Panthers are playing the Musketeers to get back there, and to face Kansas State.

The South finishes things up with Purdue against Texas A&M, and Duke against California. The Boilermakers were popular picks to get upset, but now they're on the verge of the Sweet 16. If the Aggies win, they join Baylor in playing the Sweet 16 at Houston, in their home state.

The winner of this game faces either Duke or Cal, as the Blue Devils have even less of an excuse not to win this region, with Villanova gone. But since the West Coast has been on a roll in this tournament, California may not be taken lightly. If they pull the upset, the Pac-10 will have two teams in the Sweet 16, despite its awful regular season.

After the NCAA tournament schedule 2010 is finished today, only 16 teams will be left standing. Half of those eight teams have stunned the nation, or haven't been to the second weekend in some time. Today's eight winners could be more traditional names, if this tournament's pattern holds.

Will day four be a conventional day like day two, or will those from Thursday and Saturday's games lose their monopoly on Madness? Fans will find out starting at 12:10 pm est on CBS.
