"Hilton Magic" is known by teams and fans, alike, as an extra force that this home team uses to its advantage. The noise is incredible and the fans are loud. The Cyclone fans often push their teams to victory.
This NCAA game began after 9:00 p.m. - for a late start. The ISU women were ready to go. Alison Lacey had been out and had not played in three weeks. Lacey had fought a bout with pneumonia, but she came out in full force and played the entire first half. Anna Prins, a 6-7 freshman had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Chelsea Poppens, 6-2, had 18 points and eight rebounds. Poppens, a freshman from Aplington, Iowa, said she had jitters going into the game. The Cyclones were anxious because they'd had a whole week to think about the game.
Bolte scored 12 points and Amanda Zimmerman, 6-1, scored seven points. The ability to follow through on the four to five minutes stretch, when every play was to the post set the pace for the game. Their height advantage over Lehigh and their 49.2 shooting enabled ISU to spurt ahead and blow away their opponent. Lehigh shot just 22 percent and missed its first nine shots.
Sunday's games were played before a crowd of 6,738, second only to Tennessee's crowd of almost 11,000 during this year's tournament.
This is the fourth straight year that ISU has been an NCAA Tournament contender. The Cyclone women's team has advanced to the second round during all four seasons.
The ISU Women's team is coached by Bill Fennelly. Fennelly's excitement showed as his players racked up a 12-0 lead at the beginning of the game. His team came onto the floor ready to play and move forward in the NCAA Tourney!
