Ndamukong Suh of Detroit Lions Suspended for Two Games, Appeals Decision

Detroit Lions' Ndamukong Suh was given a two game suspension from the NFL on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Suh was suspended for stomping on Evan Dietrich-Smith of the Green Bay Packers in last week's game played on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2011. The fine was handed down by Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the National Football League.

ESPN reported on Sunday night, November 27, 2011 that the announcement would be made on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 on the final decision on the punishment for Suh.

Suh let his temper get the best of him during the Lions game against the Packers and was ejected from the game for repeatedly stomping on the arm of Green Bay's Evan Dietrich-Smith at the end of a play.

Suh has since said that he did not intentionally "step on" Evan Deitrich-Smith's arm, he was just trying to get loose and out of the way. Personally, I think that is hogwash. I watched the game. I saw Suh bring his foot down on Deitrich-Smith's arm several times and Suh was looking down on the ground right at him. It was a repeated stomp, not step. I also think he had something to say about it at the time too. I'm sure knowing what words were exchanged there on the field would shed some significant light to the situation.

Regardless, the act was caught on tape and from the reactions I've heard from fellow NFL fans is that Suh needs to get a life. Hopefully, this suspension will be a wake up call for the player, who is considered to be a leader on the Detroit Lion's team. It's sad to have a big, bad bully for a leader! This really sends the wrong message out to young boys, who are also NFL fans.

Getting suspended for two games is not enough of a punishment for Suh in my opinion. Sure Suh will lose a few thousand dollars, but I don't think it will actually teach him a lesson. Maybe suspending him for the remainder of the season and having him attend some anger management classes would get the message across.

I am disappointed that Mr. Goodell did not deliver a harsher punishment to Suh. I think Suh needs to be reminded that he can't continue to pull crap like this over and over again.

Until this kind of activity is dealt with severely, it will continue because people who do things like Suh did last week to another human being, just doesn't have any manners or compassion for fellow players. A strong message needs to be sent that this kind of activity has no place in the NFL and will not be tolerated. I'm betting that this behavior will sadly continue from this player.

Late Tuesday afternoon on November 29, 2011 ESPN reported that Suh has appealed the suspension. The case will go to Art Shell, who will make the decision on the situation at hand. On field violations are all handled by Shell, instead of the Commissioner of the NFL, Robert Goodell. The hearing is expected to take place before the match-up between the Lions and Saints on Sunday, December 4, 2011.
