Some of the post offices are so busy that you can't even find a parking spot, let alone get into the parking lot depending on which post office you go to. It's just amazing how many people you can see at the post office today. I don't think I've ever seen a post office this busy before. How is it that so many people wait until the last minute? It's just overwhelming and still something that's unbelievable.
This is the one day that they should have more people working in the post office so that you can get more people in and out. It's like they don't realize what kind of a turn out they would have by having this as the last day to get everything out in time for Christmas. I can't believe that they don't get better prepared and more organized for it. Some of the post offices do for the most part, but even the ones that do still aren't as prepared as you think they should be. They go through this once a year, and it's like they still haven't caught onto how busy it really gets each year.
There was one post office here in Texas that had fights break out already today just because of people wanting to get their stuff out. There are traffic jams, bumper to bumper hits, and much more. This is one of the craziest days ever. This is almost worse than Black Friday. Most people know what to expect out of today, and yet they still don't really do much to avoid it. There's so much traffic in the parking lot and some have lines out of the parking lot, and it's causing people to hit each other or get stuck not being able to move through the parking lot.
There was one fight this morning in Texas that was over a lady standing in line, and a man came in and he had to drop something off and pick something up. The lady had already been waiting in line for a bit, and the man picked up his mail and walked into the mailing center to ship out the package that he had, and the lady dropped something and bent down to pick it up, and that's when the man jumped in front of her. He made the comment that she moved out of line and therefore needed to go back to the end, when she just bent down where she was standing to pick up the item that she accidentally dropped and the guy took her place. The people that were standing around them even saw what happened and they thought that the guy was rude. He got very defensive and was about to attack the lady...so to speak...when an officer walked in to drop of some packages as well. At that point the man turned around, and stood where he was as if nothing had ever happened. The man that was originally in front of the lady before her spot was taken let her in front of him, so she got up a space instead, and the other guy wound up right back where he was to start with.
Some people can be so rude at times, but to think that they would do that knowing that this is already a hectic day as it is, is just unruly. Some people should be more respectful and soak in what's going on around them. He wasn't the only one who had to wait in that line, there were plenty of people there waiting just as long as him if not longer, and they were all there for the same reason. I understand that it's crazy and that it can be stressful at times, but you aren't the only person who's in this predicament. There's a whole bunch of people who are going through what you are.
I think that the post office should do a whole week or 3 days minimum to get their stuff out instead of giving them just one day to have it out in time for Christmas. I know that they have plenty of time from the beginning of the year through December 18th, but still...not everyone gets their stuff out in time, so instead of giving the people one final day to get their packages out, they should give them a notice that says 3 final days to ship packages out in time for Christmas. This would keep the traffic down at the post office, and at the same time give everyone a chance to make it there in time even if their schedules are a little busy or off. At least this way, they all know that they have 3 days to figure out how to get their stuff out and on it's way in time.
If the post office did this, they could avoid some of the stress that comes from getting Christmas gifts out, people trying to squeeze in the post office during their busy schedule, rude people, car wrecks, backed up lines outside and in, and everything else that goes on by having just one final day to ship it all out. They could open more windows and have more people work to help out and make the job easier and quicker somewhat. There's quite a few things that they could do to keep the stress and frustration down during this time. It also doesn't help that some people only get an hour lunch and have to try to make it through the line to get in and out without being late, some are sick but still need to send their stuff out, and others just want to get it done and over with either way.
Well, that's how the busiest day of the year went here around Texas. I'm sure that there was more stuff that had happened depending on what state you're in, and what city you're in, but that's it for the areas around me so far. I'll keep an eye on things throughout the day and see if I can't find out more, and if I do then I'll write another article on it and let you all know how it goes.

Post a CommentInteresting informative article, although I am not sure that having a 3-day final Christmas mailing period would make that much difference. I expect that most people would still wait until the last day anyway. Also, I think it would have been helpful to have identified the specific post office where the "rude man" incident took place, rather than simply calling it a post office in Texas. I live in Texas and I'm guessing there are more (perhaps a lot more)than 1000 post offices in the state. I did enjoy this very timely article.
