Neat Tricks for Your iPhone or iPod Touch Using Press and Hold

Easy, Helpul Tricks You Might Not Know About

H. Porter
By holding your finger down on top of different items on your screen, there are a number of neat tricks you can perform on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Whether you've owned your device for a day, a month, or over a year, I'm sure you'll find something new and helpful below. Once you discover the easy press and hold features you'll appreciate your iPhone or iPod that much more!

Re-arrange Apps - Having trouble finding the app you downloaded last week? Press and hold over any of the apps on any one of the home screens. After about 2 seconds, all of the apps will start to shake, and will stay shaking until you press the home button under the screen. While they're shaking, you can drag and drop the apps in any order you'd like, even across pages! When the apps are where you like them (at least for now!), press the home button.

Delete Apps - Want to get rid of that weird app you downloaded yesterday, but don't have time to get onto iTunes on your laptop? Press and hold over any of the apps on the home screen. After a couple seconds, they'll all start to shake. After they start to shake, the apps you are allowed to delete will have an "x" in a circle in the upper right corner. Click the "X" to delete the unwanted app. When you're done, press the home button.

Save an Image on Safari - See a picture on the web you want to save for later? Simply press and hold the image and two buttons will appear on the bottom of the screen: "Save Image" and "Cancel". Click to save the image, and it will be stored in your "Photos" under the folder "Saved Images".

Take a Screenshot - If there's a screenshot you'd like to save, press and hold down the home button. While holding the home button, press the sleep button (one at the top of the device). The screen will flash white, and the screenshot will be saved in your "Photos".

Alternates from .com - When typing in a web address, press and hold ".com" on the keyboard, and you'll be given options to change to ".net", ".edu", or ".org". Just keep pressing on the key, and slide your finger over to the domain type you want.

Alternate Characters - Need an accent above a character? Simply press and hold a key on the keyboard and you'll be given all available options for that letter. While holding that key, just slide over to the character you want.

Hopefully you've learned something new and you'll find the tricks above helpful! If you have any other tricks to add, please include them in the comments below.
