Necessary Supplies for a Zombie Apocalypse

Stockpile What You Need Now Before the Zombies Eat You

Tammy Lee Morris
When planning and preparing for a zombie apocalypse, it is important to be prepared. There are a few common items that can help you in case of zombies. These are items that will come in handy whether there are zombies or not, but they can help you make it through with your life and limbs if zombies come after you.

First Aid Kit
A small first aid kit comes in hand at all times. In the event of a zombie bite, you're screwed so it won't matter, BUT a first aid kit can help you with the blisters you might develop while running from zombies. You could also get blisters on your hands after shooting zombies. A few bandages and some antibiotic ointment can fix those things right up.

Snacks
Killing zombies and running from zombies is hard work and it works up an appetite. Fellow AC Contributor and friend Linda St. Cyr offers a few tips on eating well during the zombie apocalypse with her article How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse: The Food Guide.

Personally, I have a few favorite snacks that I would want to have stockpiled. I know they would give me energy and they would serve as comfort foods on those nights when the impending doom of zombies closes in. My picks for snacks to have on hand during the zombie apocalypse would be petite Kosher garlic dill pickles (yum!), blueberries (firm, sour and fresh ones, not the mushy aged ones), Cool Ranch Doritos and Corn Nuts. I'm not much of a chocolate gal, but some white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies would also be divine.

While I'm not much of a banana eater myself (I'm more of an blueberry or apple gal myself), friend and fellow AC Contributor Rodney Roller suggested to me that a banana can serve a dual purpose in the event of zombies. Not only will eating the banana provide you with potassium, the peel could also be used in a pinch to cause an unexpected zombie to slip, giving you time to grab your weapons and put and end to his undeadness.

Entertainment
Okay, I know that there won't be much opportunity for mind enrichment or simple entertainment, but having some way to pass the time could be the difference between surviving and becoming lunch because your brain has starved and become mush due to lack of stimulation.

A deck of cards, a checkerboard (heck as long as you've got the board, you can use rocks for the checkers), a couple of magazines or a few books can keep you from going stir crazy. Learn to play a simple and portable musical instrument. Kazoo anyone? Spoons? Get yourself a harmonica and learn how to at least play it a little.

Memorize songs and poetry for singing and recitation during lulls in the action. Make sure to memorize jokes for those long nights when boredom is on the menu.

Some paper and pens or pencils can give you Tic-Tac-Toe or Hangman or even allow you to put a few of your thoughts on paper for later reflection. Try your hand at writing poetry or maybe a zombie haiku or two - you know, zombku.

zombies must die, lose their heads
survive, find pizza

See, it's easy - and entertaining.

Hand Sanitizer and Soap
While there are a number of things that should be included as supplies in the event of zombies, you can't go wrong with a massive supply of hand sanitizer and soap. Killing zombies is icky work and just imagine how much better you will feel after a long, hard day of dispatching the undead, to know that you can clean up and remove that nasty zombie gut residue. Let's face it, zombies stink and if you can get a supply of soap or sanitizer, you won't believe how much better you will feel when you are clean and fresh-smelling.

Air Freshener
Along the same vein as the soap, air freshener is not a bad idea. Zombies stink and you might want a little Febreeze or Renuzit to freshen the air and cover the stench.

Toilet Paper
Yeah, it seems silly (not really - have you ever been caught without toilet paper?) but having a good supply of toilet paper (and I'm not talking about the paper thin fall-apart stuff) on hand at all times can just make your life more tolerable. Imagine the alternatives - did your grandparents ever talk about using corn cobs and pages from the Sears catalog? Yeeeaahhh. . .you don't want to go there if you can keep from it. Spend some money and start stockpiling your toilet paper now.

There are plenty of other things that will come in handy during a zombie apocalypse and this list is by no means comprehensive. Seriously. Take my list as just a starting point. Add to it on your own because in the event of zombies, it is better to have already learned how to think for yourself.

Funny stuff! We have talked about this in my household too. We decided the Jeep will fit on the flatbed truck so then they eat the truck tires, we can get away in the Jeep! HAHA!

WHen the zombies come I trade every one of those items in for a sharp machette or even a sturdy stick.

I don't know you might need a chainsaw and a decent pair of boots.

Very helpful list. Not sure I would've thought to stock up on air freshener, but it makes perfect sense. Thanks!

I would scour the local clothing stores for unused mannequins so I could watch the zombies eat some plastic while I filmed it and then posted it on Chew Tube.
