The first category of items to consider on a new baby checklist is the furniture necessities. You will need somewhere for the infant to sleep. Decide between a crib and a bassinet and place that on your checklist. You might also want to buy some kind of diaper changing station. Several different changing tables are available, and they all work well, but make sure that yours provides you with space to stash both diapers and wipes.
Speaking of diapers and wipes, a new baby checklist reminds you of the much needed diapers. Since you do not know exactly how big your baby will be before he/she is born, it would be wise to only purchase one set of newborn sized diapers. Don't forget to place wipes on your checklist. It is important to be able to effective clean your child's bottom each time you change a diaper.
The single most important item on your new baby checklist is an infant car seat. In fact, the hospital can not even let you take your child home without an infant car seat in your vehicle. It must be a rear facing car seat, since this position is the safest for your child during his/her entire first year.
You'll also want to have a lot of receiving blankets on hand. No matter what time of year it is, blankets are necessary for a brand new baby since they get cold easily. Also, remember that they are used to being in a snug, warm environment and want to be cuddled tightly. Receiving blankets are especially nice for a newborn. This is because they are light weight, just the perfect size, and they still allow enough room for the baby to be swaddled.
Your new baby checklist should also include some necessary clothing items. Some onesies and some baby nightgowns are both needed. Nightgowns sound odd for a baby boy, but a gown makes life easy when it comes to changing diapers. This is especially true for the middle of the night feedings. Socks are another clothing item that makes the new baby checklist. Newborn babies needs to keep warm, and socks can help do just that.
And of course, you'll need lots of diaper cloths to keep you and baby clean during feedings and burpings.
Following your new baby checklist should help you to feel more confident and prepared. You will definitely be ready to bring the little one home after gathering all these items.
