Thinking on the nature of good and bad; you can't have one without the other. How would you know good if you never experienced anything bad? How would you know right if you had never been wronged, or wronged yourself? Without the dark there can be no light.
If you don't believe there has to be an opposition to every situation, then please join me at a family gathering where certain family members will always pick the opposite side of any argument. A certain uncle of my husbands intentionally does this just to keep the conversation lively and flowing and make us all think. He is a brilliant man who can argue any point convincingly though not always rightly.
Life is like that; full of opposition and trials. Temptation lurks around every corner just testing you to see if you are really as far along as you think. And how would we really know unless we put ourselves into the line of fire and find out what we are made of.
I think God took me pretty seriously when I asked for strength to make it through whatever came my way. Every now and then he throws a doozie at me just to see how well I am holding up..
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask god, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does." James 1:2-8
