Need to Get Away? Visit Quaint Stops in Madison County, Iowa or Columbus, Indiana
Peace, Solitude, and Contentment
Located near Winterset is a little side of the road place called The Brass Lantern. This is a bed & breakfast like no other! In a country farm setting, but conveniently located close to Winterset, and all of the covered bridges of Madison County, The Brass Lantern is the place to get away. The rooms are located in an seperate building from the house, with an indoor heated pool. It was in fact a blizzard the first night my wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon. We enjoyed the blizzard through the glass walls from the comfort of the pool. For a little extra both of the rooms can be rented to insure total privacy. The owners, Marge & Terry, do not bother you unless you call them. You are totally secluded with your loved one, and privacy is totally yours.
Breakfast is a wonderful home cooked meal of choice, with coffee made from beans imported from Virginia. I have yet to find a better cup of coffee! The owners are wonderful company, super conversationalist, and their home is beautiful and comfortable. This is a can't miss place! Our honeymoon was wonderful as we got to travel down gravel roads and hop from one covered bridge to another. Many wonderful pictures are still on file and memories that will last a lifetime are etched permanantly in our minds. Visit them at http://thebrasslantern.com
The second place is nestled in a country setting close to Columbus Indiana. The Welcome Home Inn is a beautiful home where you instantly find peace of mind, and can quickly leave normal life behind. With your choice of several rooms, each decorated for comfort and beauty, you can count on a quality stay at a very affordable rate. With beautiful landscaping, a gazebo, a rock path, and a trail through the woods you can slip quietly through the beauty of nature and yet get to plenty of restaurants and shopping in 15 minutes or less.
Breakfast was served at 8:30 by resident owner/cook Terry who made a wonderful sausage/egg dish with fresh fruit, coffee, soft music and good company. Terry's husband Forrest entertained us with hearty laughter and good conversation. You can visit them at http://www.welcomehomeinn.com/
Nearby also is the famed German Village near downtown Columbus, Oh. Archealogical beauty, blooming trees and original bricked streets are what you find in a very friendly and easily accessible environment. Quaint shops line the streets along with long retired schools, churches and much more. Get more info at http://germanvillage.com
As a Pastor I appreciate time to relax, collect my thoughts, and to simply "breathe". Both of these places have met the need to relax, to find solitude, and to enjoy the company of my wife. I encourage you to visit when you get a chance. I promise you, you will return again and again.
In peace until next time...
