How to Get Hired and Start Making Money Today

With unemployment on the rise, it's hard to figure out a way to get a job. Many companies are making cutbacks, or just aren't hiring. Of the companies that are hiring, they have two to three times as many applicants as they have in the past. In this job market its hard to figure out ways to make yourself stand out from the crowd.

I found myself in this very situation recently when I was let go because my company couldn't pay for my salary. I felt frustrated, and under-appreciated. I needed a way to get back into the job market and quickly and knew that the conventional methods probably wouldn't work.

Originally I registered with unemployment, spruced up my resume and started to send out copy after copy to every job opening in my field. I really thought I was in control, and would hear from someone soon. The problem was, I never did. I never even received any calls from the employers. I contacted several, only to receive a cold-shoulder or voice mail.

I decided it was time to take matters in my own hands. One day I grabbed the phone book and started looking up every relevant business to my areas of expertise. It didn't matter that they didn't advertise a job posting. They were still going to receive a copy of my resume. It was time to hit the pavement. I hand delivered a few copies and mailed the others. It wasn't even a week later and I was contacted by a handful of companies.

Although these companies didn't have open job postings, they were thinking of hiring, but just didn't get around to it. I was hired by a company in my field, with a great salary and job stability. I felt wonderful, and you can too! Dig deep, and do your homework. If you aren't successful your first time around, do what I did, and cast your net deeper.

Employers are always looking for employee with skills. One skill I have found really helps me with any job is computer skills. If you don't feel proficient using a computer or typing, it's in your best interest to attend a computer course that will train you the basics of computing. Most libraries, colleges, or other interest groups in your area host computer classes that are have little to no fees to attend. You will get your money back, and then some, by improving your skills.

Improve the skills you have, and cast your net wider by reaching out to employers that aren't hiring. With these two avenues, you will expand your job hiring possibilities.
