Need a Job? Obama is Hiring, but He is Not Paying

Obama's Fall Fellows Program Promises Hard Work, No Pay

There is good news for all of those out-of-work Americans who are chomping at the bit to do something. Despite a poor jobs market, President Barack Obama himself is hiring! He is looking for hard working Americans to take on "inspiring but difficult work" for twelve straight weeks. There is just one catch.

Obama is not paying. Not a cent. You are working, full-time, for four months, for free.

The program is called the Fall Fellows, and when it was presented to Obama supporters in a July 2011 email, the lack of pay was not made clear. In fact, it is not made clear until you decide to apply that you are volunteering. It is placed, in tiny words, at the bottom of the Fall Fellows web page on the Obama for America website.

One must still apply like a real paying job, and the Obama for America website states that one will "train and develop the next generation of community organizers." Applicants are also told they should be "willing to volunteer long and irregular hours at times, potentially including weekends."

Among the duties expected of a "Fall Fellow" include the following, taken from the Obama for America website: "empower new voters by collecting voter registration forms...enter, organize, and maintain the data...use social networks to help amplify our message...hold house meetings to bring supporters together in communities and on college campuses...recruit, coach, and develop local and campus teams of individuals...and plan and execute events with other campaign staff." As one can see, this is easy stuff, so "Fall Fellows" don't mind not getting paid.

Remember, this is a campaign that is expected to spend $1 BILLION to get the President re-elected. Yet, they cannot find even a little money to pay these workers minimum wage. This is the same Democratic party that fought tooth and nail to raise the minimum wage, but now that they have the chance to give that minimum wage, they do not.

The Obama Administration, however, did manage to find $535 million to give to Solyndra, a so-called "green" company, because it fit the President's green initiative, even though many knew the company was doomed. Of course, it did fail less than two years after receiving the money.

Such is life under the reality of Obama's socialist ideals: those at the top of the political food chain reap the benefits (and get paid), while the majority, the grunts, do all the work with little recognition and no pay. It is change you can believe in, but don't expect it to pay the bills.
