The orange is so high in vitamin C that one cup of orange cut up or in juice form has 90% of the daily recommended dose. If you eat just one orange a day or drink one cup of orange juice a day you will have your daily recommended amount of vitamin C. If you eat one orange a day you don't have to worry about getting any more vitamin C a day. If you eat an orange a day you will be getting a good amount of fiber. A single orange has more then 3 grams of fiber in it. Fiber is very important in your body to help it function properly.
Vitamin C is one of the best known ways to boost your immune system. It also has much to do with many of our bodies functions. Vitamin C enhances the absorption of iron so if you are not getting enough iron in your diet you will need to have vitamin C along with iron to get your body to absorb the iron properly. Vitamin C helps wounds to heal and it is believed to be able to reduce the risk of cancer.
Oranges will not only supply your vitamin C needs but they also provide a good amount of folate, potassium and thiamine. Eating oranges will also give you pectin in your diet. Pectin helps you to have healthy nails.
The orange has some fruits that are close cousins like the Clementine and the tangerine. The cousins of the orange can provide you with the same dietary requirements that an orange can give. So if you do not care for oranges you may find one of the oranges cousins to be more to your liking.
You have probably heard the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." But maybe the saying should go "an orange a day keeps the doctor away."
