Negril Hills Golf Club - Negril, Jamaica
A Great Course for Golfers Who Enjoy Teeing Off Downhill in the Beautiful Jamaica Countryside
The Negril Hills Golf Club course itself is a perfect match to the scenery. Golfers who enjoy teeing off downhill will find the course ideal. The majority of approaches are situated back uphill though and there are so steep with challenging portions where the flag is close to invisible. As to be expected, a number of the greens disappear somewhere south along with your putts.
The 6,333-yard, par 72, 18-hole course at Negril Hills Golf Club is very playable even for your average mid handicapper. The drastic changes in elevation make it appear longer though. The Robert Simmons layout includes narrowing and tight fairways, especially at No. 18 where hitting a fade is an absolute must, if you chose to use a big stick. Several other holes are very memorable; starting even at No. 1 with its almost blind landing that will have you aiming toward clouds. You will find No. 2 to be an accessible par 4. The green goes uphill with bunkers right and left. No. 5 comes with is sharp dogleg in a tilting fairway. My personal favorite is the par 3 No. 7 which would make anyone feel bobsled-happy.
The course at Negril Hills Golf Club is not offered free to the Super Club resorts guests in Jamaica, but green fees are surprisingly affordable at less than $60. They have a good caddy program and you pay extra for the cart (shared fees of $34.50 - cart, $14.00 caddy fees). Other facilities include the requisite putting green, driving range as well as a good pro shop, tennis courts, and a relaxing club house.
Negril Hills Golf Club is a fun carnival ride of a golf course, offering lots of surprises with its tilting, turning twists and gorgeous views.
