Neigh-bors

Quickpaws
Two horses live next door to me.
Such gentle creatures, those!
They love to stand and watch me
As I pet them on the nose,

And if I have two apple cores,
They think it's quite a treat!
They'll gladly walk across the field
For something good to eat.

Sometimes they drink their water,
But sometimes they splash instead,
Throwing water at me
From my feet up to my head!

A paradox of power
And a big, soft gentle heart,
Each horse has quickly earned my love.
I hate to be apart.

And when I leave to go somewhere,
Beside the fence they stay...
An ever-present pair of friends,
From dawn 'til end of day.
