There may have not been much to come home to after the devastating tornado that ravaged through this scruffy little terrier's master's home in Alabama, but that didn't stop Mason from going back, even with 2 broken front legs.
Almost 3 weeks after twisters hit the Birmingham, Alabama area, and Mason was blown away by the storm from the garage he was hiding in, he miraculously showed up on what was left of the front porch of his owners home. When the owners returned home to look through debris, their little dog, with 2 broken front legs, was waiting for them.
According to Dr. Barbara Benhart, who helped care for Mason at the Vulcan Park Animal Care Clinic where he was taken for his injuries, he would have to have had to literally crawl back, she said. He had 2 broken legs, Dr. Benhart said, and neither of them had healed, so crawling was the only way he would have been able to get back to his home. However he managed to get there, he made it, and needless to say, this is one remarkable story of survival.
Today, Mason is reportedly doing very well after surgery where 2 metal plates were attached to his bones so they could heal. With the help of donations and the generosity of a veterinary clinic, Mason was able to get the surgery he needed to heal. The little mutt is expected to have an almost complete recovery and be pretty much back to normal in about 6 weeks.
This "Lassie Come Home" type story has made Mason somewhat of a celebrity and he now even has his own Facebook page. His new temporary home will be the Vulcan Park Animal Care Clinic, until his owners can hopefully "get back on their own feet" and get resettled in a place they can call home and all be reunited, once and for all.
The animal shelter where Mason is at has been inundated with pets that have been lost in the recent storms that have hit the area. They say Mason's story is probably the most dramatic as far as a story of survival, though. In the condition he was in when he showed up on his owners front porch is pretty remarkable to say the least, a shelter worker said.
The best of luck to Mason and his owners, as well as to everyone else around the country who has been affected by these terrible storms over the past few weeks. God's blessings and speedy recoveries to all of them.

Post a CommentWhat a wonderful little dog, and how he must love his owners. I hope he won't have to wait too long to be back with them again.
What a great story!
