Nelson, Mellencamp, Dylan Summer Concert 2009

My wife and I went to Bethel, NY last weekend to this open air concert. We rented deck chairs and sat on the top of the hill. Willie opened the show and sang many of his standards: On the road again, Crazy, Georgia, Always on my mind, Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys, Angel flying too close to the ground and Funny (How time slips away). The songs were a little rushed-e.g. when he combined Crazy and Georgia. Overall, his performance was good. After Willie, there was an hour delay (with recorded blues music), which was annoying due to some significant rain.
John Mellencamp was the star and sang: Pink Houses, Hurts so good, Rain on the Scarecrow, Jackie Brown, If I die sudden, Crumblin Down, Paper in fire and Small Town. My favorite was If I die sudden-the lady fiddler was great.
Dylan was a big disappointment. We saw him at Madison Square Garden about 12 years ago (Time out of mind album) and he was brilliant. Now, he says the words, instead of singing: Don't think twice it's alright, Highway 61( I had this albumn and love the title song), but this version was so unintelligable that the only words you could make out were the two in the title, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Workingman's Blues #2, Positively 4th Street and It's alright mom, I'm only bleeding. A few feet away from us was a guy with sunglasses who looked and danced a lot like Bernie in "Weekend at Bernie's." I said to my wife "at least Bernie likes Dylan." My wife still enjoys Dylan and bought a t-shirt.
