Sometimes I get an intense desire for something sweet and chocolaty. A nice big glass of rich, sweet and decadent chocolate milk, often does the trick in satisfying that craving. Both Nesquik chocolate milk powder and Hershey's Syrup will do the job just fine. They are very different in how they fill the bill.
The Hershey's brand is one that represents one of the most famous names in chocolate. It was started in 1900 in what was then Derry Church, now Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Hershey's syrup is very easy to mix in with milk as it already comes in a liquid syrup form. It is easy to use when poured from a squeeze type bottle. One problem I have though is that it is stored in the refrigerator and can be difficult to get out of the bottle. If I set it on the counter for awhile before I use it, then it is easier to use as it warms up.
I must admit, just seeing rich looking chocolate pouring out of a squeeze bottle of Hershey's syrup, is enough to make this chocoholic start to salivate in anticipation. Since it comes out in liquid form, the smell is wonderful too.
I made a trip to one of the Hershey factories. This one is in a small town in Northern California. The whole little town smells like melting chocolate. The smell that hit me as I stepped out of my car was heavenly. It was like walking into the kitchen when chocolate chip cookies are baking. I suppose they get immune to it living and working there. To me it was like driving into chocolate paradise with that smell permeating the air.
The very best thing about Hershey's syrup is being able to pour the gooey chocolaty ambrosia on a big bowl of cream. Then I watch it slowly drip down and cover the ice cream.
Nesquik chocolate milk powder was created in 1948 in the United States. The Nesquik company now sells it in over 100 countries worldwide.
Nesquik chocolate milk powder is not as easy to mix into the milk as Hershey's syrup is . The chocolate smell is still there but not quite as strong. If you have never had it before, it doesn't look too thrilling when you open the container. It comes in powdered form. You use a spoon to get the powder from the can to put in your glass of milk. Then you stir and stir it to get it to dissolve in the milk.
Some people don't like Nesquik chocolate milk powder it because it takes a certain amount of effort to get it mixed thoroughly with the milk. Some don't like Nesquik powder because it often has clumps of half mixed wet chocolate powder. The odd thing is, that is precisely why I love it so much. I can always find a nice glob of wet chocolate stuck to the bottom of my glass. I love scraping it from my glass with a spoon and getting a mouthful of intensely rich chocolate flavour. That just tops off the pleasure of drinking my glass of chocolate milk. I also like getting the occasional clump bursting in my mouth while I am guzzling the glass of milk down.
Nesquik also comes in a sugar free variety now. They carry a strawberry flavored powder for milk too which is good if I am in the mood for it, but I'll choose Nesquik chocolate powder for milk first.
Nesquik does have a syrup now. If I am going to have chocolate syrup for something like ice cream, I'll buy Hershey's Chocolate Syrup.
I have both Nesquik chocolate powder and Hershey's syrup in the house. If I am making chocolate milk I always choose Nesquik first. I use the Hershey's syrup for milk if I run out of the Nesquik powder.

Post a CommentThey still have the powder Nesquick, I have it in my pantry right now. It also has less sugar then when they first started making it. It still taste the same though.
Nesquick dosnt mix well with the milk. so i prefer the syrup!!!!!
There is no comparison. Totally different flavors. I like to eat the powder with some milk on it.....You can not do that with the syrup nor would you WANT to do that with Nesquik!!!! WE WANT THE POWDER BACK !!! WE WANT THE POWDER BACK !!!! EVEN IF IT HAS TO BE ORDERED ONLINE !!!!
I think a better comparison would be the Hershey chocolate milk powder against the Nesquik! Unfortunately, Hershey stopped making this Feb 2009! I grew up on this and can totally relate to the mix stuck on the spoon - delicious! Also, the consistency of the Hershey chocolate milk powder was much like powdered sugar compared to Nesquik, which is more like a malt - kind of grainy. I prefer the taste of Hershey chocolate bars to Nestle as well - so much more rich and creamy. Thanks for the fun review - Long live Hershey!
nequik
is
way
better
: )
Very thorough review. Great job!
I always prefer Nesquik over Hershey's when it comes to making chocolate milk. People think I'm weird cuz I even put the powder on my ice cream. This is a differt experience because you can mix it with the ice cream as it melts or eat the powder with the ice cream straight out of the freezer.
I also like the power mix better for chocolate milk, and the hershey's for ice cream, but unlike you I don't have any problem getting the power to mix well into the milk. Just 10 seconds of some stirring or so...
Never touch the stuff, but my grandson will appreciate the best.
Nesquick for President!! :)
