A Rather English Marriage: It's like a British Odd Couple if Oscar had a country house and Felix was more wise than finicky. Friendship blooms between two widowers (Tom Courtenay and Albert Finney) who were also brilliant together in The Dresser. This new Netflix instant film got 3.4 stars.
Dead Man Walking: Activist nun Helen Prejean (Susan Sarandon) can't save the life of a death row convict (Sean Penn) but does try to save his soul. It's definitely worth watching again. Viewers give it 3.8 stars.
Rabbit-Proof Fence: It's a heart-breaking true story of children torn from their families by Australia's aboriginal integration program. You're left to ponder to what extent did officials delude themselves that they were protecting these children or just cashing in on cheap labor. This top rated movie got 3.7 stars.
Breathless: Enjoy the Godard classic all over again or introduce the French new wave to your older children. A cop killer (Jean-Paul Belmondo) goes on the lam with his American girlfriend.
The Kingdom: This spooky Danish TV show got 3.5 stars. It just goes to show what can happen when you build a hospital on haunted ground. It's scary, funny and just plain weird.
Sweetgrass: This gorgeous documentary commemorates the last band of sheep trailed through the mountains of Montana by a 19th century ranch that closed in 2004. Without any celebrity narrator to get in the way, it's a fascinating look at the animals and a realistic portrayal of the hardships in this way of life. This new Netlix streaming movie got 3.1 stars.
Raajneeti: This Indian version of The Godfather may be all the more interesting because the original trilogy is also now playing on Netflix streaming so you can compare the two. Here, one son tries to stay out of his family's political dynasty but the murder of his father reveals his own talent for corruption and violence. Viewers gave this top rated movie 3.5 stars.
The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond: It's not the best Tennessee Williams screenplay, but it's much better than its troubled history would suggest with Lyndsay Lohan dropping out and difficulty finding a distributor. The central love story is engaging, and Ann-Margret and Ellen Burstyn are sensational in smaller roles. It got 2.9 stars at Netflix.
These new Netflix instant movies for September 2010 are all worth taking a look.

Post a Commentnicely done, have not seen most of these!
I do wish Netflix would put more of it's older fare online. I appreciate the classics (not 1990's stuff! but REAL classics!) and would so love this...
Thank you for the article always looking for good movies to watch!
Rabbit Proof Fence (the only one of these I've seen; I can't imagine how I've missed the Godard) is haunting.
