The best new movies on Netflix instant for January 2011 belong in your New Year's resolutions. Watch these 10 top rated new films on Netflix streaming.

Dolores Claiborne (1994): "Misery" does love company. Kathy Bates makes another Steven King movie. This time her estranged daughter investigates whether she killed her employer, as well as her husband 15 years earlier. This new Netflix instant film got 3.7 stars.

Dragon Hunters (2001): A brave little girl battles the World Gobbler and teaches chivalry to a bunch of con artists in this English language version of the French series. Viewers give it 3.6 stars on Netflix streaming.

Precious (2009): This Best Picture nominee gets dedicated to precious girls everywhere. A young woman overcomes incest and other horrors with the help of an alternative school in this 3.7 stars movie.

About a Boy (2010): Hugh Grant invents an imaginary son to help him score with women and winds up befriending a real little boy in this Nick Hornby comedy. It gets 3.6 stars.

The Killing Fields (1984): A New York Times journalist (Sam Waterston) wins a Pulitzer for his coverage of the Cambodian civil war, but loses his translator (Haing S. Ngor) in the upheaval. This 3.9 star new Netflix film won three Academy Awards.

The Crucible (1973): Based on the Arthur Miller play, the Salem Witch trials demonstrate the need to question authority. Villagers including Daniel Day-Lewis get persecuted due to false accusations from Winona Ryder and other young girls who are trying to escape being persecuted by corrupt officials. Sounds like the war on drugs, etc. It gets 3.4 stars on Netflix streaming.

Disgrace (2008): It's the next best thing to reading Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee who is the next best thing to Dostoevsky in teaching moral philosophy through a novel. Ignore the 2.7 stars at Netflix.

Parallax View (1974): If a lone gunman kills a U.S. Senator, why are the witnesses turning up dead? Warren Beatty goes undercover to find out in this political thriller. It earns 3.3 stars.

Long Good Friday (1980): A British gangster (Bob Hoskins) tries to pull off a big real estate deal but someone's blowing up his empire. Helen Mirren costars in this 3.4 stars movie.

Mona Lisa (1986): Bob Hoskins got a Best Actor nomination as an ex-actor who falls for the hooker he's chauffeuring. She's in love, but not with him. It earns 3.4 stars.

    How do they select the films for this service? It is a fascinating list, and I like that they seem to give older films a chance.
