Fargo (1996): A pregnant police chief tracks down two kidnappers in this Coen Brothers black comedy. It got 2 Academy Awards and 3.8 Netflix stars. It's coming to Netflix Instant March 1.
Thelma and Louise (1991): Two women (Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis) hit the road for some weekend fun and wind up outlaws. It got 3.7 Netflix stars and it's coming to Netflix Streaming March 1.
The Gold Rush (1927): Charlie Chaplin prospects for gold and love in the Klondike. It got 3.8 Netflix stars and it's worth watching just for the famous shoe eating scene alone.
The Bride of Frankenstein (1935): The monster takes a bride in the horror classic from director James Whale. It's even better now that today's audience is in on the sexual themes that got past the censors in the 1930s. It earns 3.4 stars.
The Wolf Man (1941): See how the wolf man got his start with Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi and 3.5 Netflix stars.
The Snake Pit (1948): Based on a true story, a married woman gets haunted by childhood memories and sent to a state mental hospital. Olivia de Havilland's performance got an Oscar nomination. It's still a sensitive and authentic depiction of mental illness that gets 3.7 stars.
Triumph of the Will (1934): Shudder at the notorious propaganda film of the 1934 Nazi Party rally in Nuremberg. Director Leni Riefenstahl made her place in world history and cinema. I never timed it but IMDb says there are 20 minutes when the only audible word is "Heil." It gets 3.5 stars.
Get Shorty (1995): A Miami loan shark goes all Hollywood. The Elmore Leonard dialogue sounds pretty funny from John Travolta, Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, and Danny DeVito, earning it 3.4 stars.
Fish Tank (2009): A teen feuds with her mother's new boyfriend who seems too good to be true. So much misery and squalor get packed into every detail of life in a housing project. It won Best British Film at the 2010 BAFTA and 3.5 Netflix stars.
The Man Who Loved Women (1977): A serial lover's life gets told in flashbacks as he reflects on the many women who flock to his funeral. This sophisticated comedy from director Francois Truffaut gets 3.2 stars on Netflix Instant.

Post a CommentGreat list. Any list that starts with "Fargo" is great.
Love my Netflix and I loved your article! What a great idea that was to list movies coming to the streaming section. My hubby and I watch them all the time, as well as get their DVDs in the mail. We'll definitely check out a few of the ones you listed. I can't wait to re-watch Thelma & Louise. I had forgotten about that one, but want to check out a young Brad Pitt!
