Netflix Vs. Blockbuster Comparison and Advice

They Are Both Great Choices

Lloyds Apple
Blockbuster Vs. Netflix: A win-win situation for consumers. Not as exciting as, say, Ali vs. Foreman, but money is now being saved. In retrospect we were simply getting ripped off by the rental companies in the 90's, just like the music industry, so let's not get too giddy.

Thankfully that the tide has turned in the movie rental business and it is now a buyers market. What does this mean? Simply, it is possible to rent multiple movies for cheap.

Here is a quick break down of the two services:

What Gimmicks seperate the 2 apart?

Netflix: Ability to offer seperate viewing choices to different family members. This can be important if you do not want your kids watching violence or your husband (or wife) watching porn. I say if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Perhaps that is going too far.

Blockbuster: Ability to return mailed movies to store (as seen in the recent commercials).

Advantage: Push

It seems Blockbuster has the advantage, but upon further review, there is reason to doubt. If a movie is rented from the store, then it must be returned, not mailed, or it will be subject to late fees. Ouch.

COST?

A. Unlimited rentals

Netflix: 8 plans total from $9.99 to $47.99 per month. Up to 8 movies out at a time.
Blockbuster: 4 plans total ranging from $9.99 to $23.99 per month. Up to 4 movies out at a time.

B. One movie out at a time

Netflix: $5.99 for 2 DVDs and $11.99 for 4 DVDs per month.
Blockbuster: $5.99 for 2 DVDs and $7.99 for 3 DVDs per month

Advantage: Push

Basically the same rates for all the movies. If you prefer quanity, Rentflix offers more options. If you live near Blockbuster it can be argued the convenience factor voids the Rentflix advantage completely. I tend to agree.

Selection?

Netflix: Over 65,000 movie titles
Blockbuster: Over 60,000 movie titles

Advantage: push

If you are into more obscure work, check the movie title listings. I'm calling it even.

Overall?

They are about the same. Apples and Oranges.

For those who trust themselves in returning a movie to a Blockbuster store, then Blockbuster is the way to go.

For those who would rather not leave the house and still more movie options, Netflix is the right choice. Some customers still have late fees at Blockbuster and have chosen to ignore them and go with Netflix for that reaso

Moving on, the next challenge is to find quality films. Some like sifting through the madness, others despise it.

Good luck!

They both have a variety of strenghts, bs. You have to decide which works best for you. Just like politics, two sides making the opposite pitch, but the results are all, well, bs.

The main differences are 1) Blockbuster does not have nearly the number of titles in their store as you get online plus most new releases are rarely available if you go to the stores and 2) studies about the availability of you next movie is not available as frquently with Blockbuster. Netflix is a much more mature and dependable service that Blockbuster's.
