I suffered from dandruff and a very dry scalp since I was a teenager. I used Head and Shoulders Anti-Dandruff shampoo because that was basically all that was available. I hated using it, it didn't smell good and it didn't make my hair soft and manageable like normal shampoos and conditioners did. I would use Head and Shoulders Anti-Dandruff shampoo when I needed it and I would switch back to my normal shampoo. I think the thing I hated the most was that it was a 2 in 1 product. I have never liked products with the shampoo and conditioner in one and this was no exception.
When I saw the Neutrogena T/Gel at my store I decided I would give it a try since I didn't think it could be any worse then the Head and Shoulders Anti-dandruff that I was currently using. The thing I noticed right away while I was still in the store was that Neutrogena had a separate shampoo and conditioner. The smell of the Neutrogena T/Gel shampoo is strong and different, but I actually liked it, and I liked the smell of the conditioner that went with it. The Neutrogena T/Gel shampoo was very thick and I had to rinse my hair several times to make sure I got it all out. I finished up with the Neutrogena conditioner and it felt just like a regular conditioner. When I blow dried my hair I noticed that my hair felt much softer. I liked the Neutrogena T/Gel a lot and with continued use it has continued to keep my dandruff away. I currently use Neutrogena T/Gel Shampoo and Neutrogena Conditioner, and I am very happy with the products.
The Head and Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo is quite a bit cheaper than the Neutrogena T/Gel. A bottle of Head and Shoulders Anti-Dandruff Shampoo is around $7 for 14 ounces, a bottle of Neutrogena T/Gel is $14 for 16 ounces. You also have to consider the fact that with Neutrogena T/Gel you will need to add in the cost of a conditioner. I think this is a case of you get what you pay for. I think that the Neutrogena product works better and is a better value for your money.
Most local drugstores carry both Neutrogena T/Gel and Head and Shoulders Anti-Dandruff. If you can't find the Neutrogena T/Gel in a store near you, you can buy it on-line at places such as drugstore.com or Amazon.com.
