Never Intended, Never Regretted:

(or for the Age of Forever)

Brendan W Vittum
never intended, never regretted:
(or for the age of forever)

much was said that he never
intended, meant to say, words
lost until she stumbled on the key
to doors so rotted - abandoned -
he had hoped, forgotten,
they existed.

other words, promises
spoken, sworn to, for the age
of forever. words remembered,
never intended, never
regretted, meant, held to
to this day. and more - the words
not spoken, actions not taken
where others counseled prudence,
inaction; yesterday's wisdom
becomes today's curse.

for a time her brilliance became
his darkness - so frozen as to forget
how, to, beat, until born by a unicorn
from winter's cold shadow into summer's
heat - a heart cut by love's scalpel bled
her name with each living beat, and all
was well - she caught each burning drop,
revitalized with a touch, thought - was fed
back to a draining self.

times, souls, changing - intents
diverging - each beat
watering earth below; all that was,
is, might be, coexists in this instant,
in the heart of a single raindrop
whispering their names, crashing
earthwards.

now, too late? he learns her lesson;
the harshest splinters are of life's
softest tissue. a thought,
a raindrop, a heart, whispers -
and nothing is there to hear,
to answer,
the heart
Howl.
