The problem and reason this is such a common issue is because many MySpace users don't know any HTML or CSS and think it's quicker or cooler to steal/borrow someone elses theme, not realizing they are giving complete access to someone else. When you copy someone's theme they created often times it contains loads of spam as credit and free advertisement of their work. I'm all for giving credit where credit is due, to a point. Don't make it tacky and spammy as that's just insulting and I will leave the page ASAP. It also makes it load extremely slow.
You really should never use someone else's MySpace Theme, but if you are going to use someone else's MySpace Theme that you got for free, with our without permission, there are several safe guards you can do to prevent any problems, from things such as viruses and spyware to dead images.
When you copy the source code that you are planning on using for your MySpace layout, go to your Start Button, then Programs, Accessories, then Notepad. Paste all that code into your notepad document. Now use "Control F" and type in ".gif" and or ".jpg" these are the images located in the theme that create your background or the spam images they've included into the layout.
Copy and paste one by one those links into your browser window. Now, save each of those images that comes up to your desktop. After you have located all those images in the that theme, and saved them go to your MySpace and create an album and upload them. Be sure your album is public other wise your theme images won't show up for everyone.
After you completed uploading those images to your MySpace album (and I'm suggesting MySpace and not Photobucket because you aren't limited with MySpace) title the images.
One by one you will need to right click on those images and grab those link locations. Be sure to replace each image with the correct image you have uploaded in your album with that matching link in the notepad document. Other wise your theme will look nothing like it was when you copied and pasted the code into your notepad.
Now that you have done that, you can remove any spam you don't wish to have located in your theme you copied by looking at the images that aren't meant to be in your theme. They will be linked with . This should help you remove any spyware and viruses, as the only links that should be located in your notepad are all links that link to your MySpace images you uploaded. If you see something that is linking to something else, I'd be highly suspicious.
