Never Underestimate the Power of Living on a Plan!

Jon DeGroff
One of the main questions that I ask when I sit with a potential prospect is simply "Do you live on a budget?"
The answer rarely surprises me, and the answer is almost always a resounding "NO!"

I think that the majority of people believe that the budget is something that restricts them-that they won't be able to pick up that Coke and a cheeseburger if they are living within the confines of a budget.

This way of thinking is completely false, and as I like to point out: living on a budget makes your life MUCH simpler, as it allows you to know where your money is going, rather than wondering where it went!

Think about this: If you can plan your expenditures on paper before you actually receive your paycheck, you are much more likely to do the right things with that money. If you "name your dollars," as in give it a name and tell it what to do, you will learn to start managing your money much more effectively. This is why a budget is one of the most basic steps in building a proper financial plan: because you have to manage your money effectively if you're going to be successful financially!

Working up a budget is a fairly simple and painless process. It shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes or so, if you already have a decent handle on where the money is going. If you don't have a handle on it, then you may need to spend a little more time, but working up a budget shouldn't take more than an hour or so. That's not a lot of time considering how much money can be saved with a proper plan for your money. There are plenty of resources online that can help you learn to budget, and can walk you through each category possible so you can be sure that you don't miss anything.

When you are in the process of solving a Rubix Cube, you pinpoint a section to start with and start moving the colors the proper layer. The budget is one of the first moves to help you solve your own financial puzzle. If you want to live in financial peace, you should get a budget and live it.
