Neverland

Tara Dawn
littered papers.
cracked coffee mugs.
old tea bags.
socks,
inside-out, on the
living room floor.
this place seems so big
without the little
pieces of you.
I'm walking through my
grade school,
wondering how, when,
did I ever grow up?
and what the hell
am I supposed to do
now?

peter pan took
my hand,
we flew to a land of
disillusionment.
and once the mermaids
drown me down
I realized then,
that second star,
it wasn't to the
right.

I did it again.
tried to hold it together
with construction paper
and elmer's glue.
now I've put it in a box
with your name on it,
in the basement,
and years down the road
I'll remember
we were happy.
maybe then I'll know
why we all
fall
down.
